Sunday Farm Journal:
The second week of spring CSAs included some gorgeous peonies, foxglove, and mock orange! Perennials are such an important player for spring because they can handle the wild weather a little better than annuals. This is my first year doing spring flowers and it’s definitely a learning curve! I am thankful to have the perennials we have but I’ll probably be focusing on them even more in the future.
The farm crew and I are redoing part of the field, moving around the iris and daffodils to make a space for the heirloom mums I have coming next week. They followed along right behind me as I did my transplanting (sometimes sticking their heads between me and the soil for a better look).
This week I got my first succession of zinnias in the ground (about 150 plants) and have been starting sunflowers every week to have blooms all summer long.
Our farm dog had his 11th birthday and tired himself out with his new toys!
Next weekend we have a pop up at so I’ll spend this week prepping for that along with more seed starting and babying newly planting summer flowers.

Flower friends, I have decided to sell roughly 3/4 of my bearded Iris collection. I love them but they just bloom a little too early for where I see my business going in the next 5-10 years. Plus I just have too many! Most are pale blue and yellow but I also have some deep purple. Please message me if you are interested in them. I’d prefer to sell the whole lot together which would be about 60-70 plants!

Sunday Farm Journal:
In the midst of feeling down on myself about pest pressure and other challenges that flower farming brings, this big bumblebee lifted my spirits and reminded me about why we don’t use any type of chemicals on the farm. We also noticed a rustling in the yarrow and found tiny baby bunnies hiding out in there. That explains what’s been happening to all my rudbeckia and lettuce!
I’ve been releasing beneficial insects to help with pests in a natural way but I’m hoping that as our regenerative practices mature that we will need less of them in future years (these bugs are expensive!)
Our banner for the farm stand came in the mail and I love it!
The weather has been hot and dry, poor spring flowers.
I haven’t opened up custom ordering yet but please reach out if you need anything.
Meanwhile I’ll be eating this kale from our garden!
