National Mascot Day

Every company has a logo. We have a rat.

Today is National Mascot Day, and we're giving a shoutout to the face of Ron the Sewer Rat.

For more than 50 years, our mascot has helped us stand out in an industry where most companies look and sound the same. He's been on trucks, shirts, signs, social media posts, community events, and even a few coloring books along the way.

While the real work is done by our talented plumbers, drain technicians, dispatchers, and office team, the rat has become a symbol of who we are, a company that believes professional service doesn't have to be boring.

Thanks for helping make us one of the most recognizable plumbing and drain cleaning companies in the Twin Cities.

Happy National Mascot Day from all of us at Ron the Sewer Rat!

Story from the Field

One of our plumbers was recently called out to install three customer-supplied toilets.

The first American Standard toilet went in without any issues.

The second, however, told a different story.

After installation, we noticed a leak between the tank and bowl. We flushed it five times, and it leaked every single time. The tank was removed and the gasket inspected — the gasket itself looked fine. But a closer look revealed the real problem: a manufacturing defect in the porcelain that prevented the tank-to-bowl gasket from seating flush.

To be thorough, we inspected the third toilet before installing it — and found the same defect that would have caused another leak.

The good news: the issue was caught before it became a bigger problem.
The customer appreciated us flagging it right away and decided to have us install two Ge**er toilets that we carry on our trucks. He plans to return the defective units to Home Depot, where they were purchased.

This is a good reminder that not all fixtures are created equal. Toilets sold through big-box stores are often manufactured differently than those supplied through professional distributors. While the upfront price may be lower, they can sometimes be produced in different facilities to cut costs — which increases the risk of quality issues.

Catching problems early is part of the job — and it saves our customers time, frustration, and repeat repairs.

Shout out of the week

This weeks shout-out goes to John our master plumber for stepping up and delivering when it mattered most.

Becky called us late Friday morning with a failed water heater, expecting to wait until Monday. Instead, John was on site that same afternoon, assessed the situation, and got to work replacing both the water heater and an aging softener, all in one visit.

No shortcuts, no delays, just solid work from start to finish.

Becky shared this after the job:
"John the plumber came to the rescue… He quickly put together a reasonable quote, I signed off and he got to work… He stayed until everything was installed and working properly. Very friendly and informative. Highly recommend!"

Great work, John. Showing up, solving the problem, and seeing it through, that’s what it’s all about.

If you’re dealing with a water heater issue, we’re here to help.

Happy Birthday, U.S. Army. Happy Flag Day.

Today we recognize two important American traditions.

On June 14, 1775, the United States Army was established, making it 251 years old this year. For more than two centuries, soldiers have answered the call to serve, defend, and protect our nation.

Today is also Flag Day, a time to reflect on the symbol that represents our country's history, freedom, and the sacrifices made by generations of Americans.

We are grateful for the men and women who have served in the Army and all branches of our military, as well as the families who have supported them along the way.

Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your commitment to our country.

Happy Army Birthday. Happy Flag Day.

It's National Movie Night.

Everyone has that one movie they've seen a hundred times and would still watch again tonight.

So we have to ask:

What's your all-time favorite movie?

Is it a classic?
A comedy?
An action movie?
Something that reminds you of being a kid?

Drop your favorite movie title in the comments and see how many other people agree.

We'll start:
The one where the plumber saves the day.

Happy National Movie Night from all of us at Ron the Sewer Rat.

It's National Corn on the Cob Day, and around Minnesota that means one thing: summer is officially here.

Let's settle an important debate...

How do you eat your corn on the cob?

👍 LIKE = Butter only
❤️ LOVE = Butter + salt
😂 HAHA = Loaded with toppings
😮 WOW = Straight off the grill, no toppings needed
😡 ANGRY = Corn isn't my thing

Cast your vote using the reaction buttons and tell us if we missed your favorite way to enjoy corn.

There may not be a wrong answer, but some of us are definitely judging the people who skip the butter.

Story from the Field – Edina

We were called out to a home in Edina for a floor drain backup. The homeowner had their main sewer line replaced last year, so the line to the city should have been in good shape.

After cleaning and inspecting the line, our tech confirmed the home’s sewer wasn’t the issue. The backup was coming from the city sewer, which was pushing water back toward the house.

We contacted the City of Edina, and they’re heading out to diagnose and resolve the problem.

A good reminder: not every sewer backup is caused by a bad pipe on the homeowner’s side. Getting eyes on the line makes all the difference.

Don’t Ignore That “Once in a While” Slow Drain

If a drain is slow sometimes (especially after snowmelt or rain), that’s usually your mainline starting to struggle.

Spring is when small issues turn into full backups. Catch it early, and it’s a routine clean instead of an emergency.
