Happy National Boss’s Day to our owner, Peter Kroening!

At Ron the Sewer Rat, we’re proud to be a family-owned business. No venture capital firm. No private equity ownership. Just a local company led by someone who cares about the people who work here and the customers we serve.

Peter is more than the owner of Ron the Sewer Rat. He’s a family man, a leader who genuinely cares about his team, and, most importantly on National Boss’s Day, a pretty darn good boss.

Owning a business means wearing a lot of hats, making tough decisions, and occasionally dealing with a whole lot of crap, which, fortunately, is something we know a little about around here.

Shout-Out of the Week: Professional, Clear, and Clean from Start to Finish

This week’s shout-out goes to John, who called us with a clog in his main sewer line — never a fun situation. Garvin stepped in and made the process as smooth as possible.

Fall Yard and Exterior Wrap Up

Leaves are beautiful—until they clog your drains and gutters.

Before winter hits:
• Clear gutters and window wells
• Rake and bag leaves (don’t let them pile near drains)
• Trim trees near your roof
• Blow out sprinklers and store hoses

Bonus: pour a bucket of water into your floor drain to keep that trap full and ready.

Story From the Field: Not the News Anyone Wants

Sometimes a clogged sewer line turns out to be more than a clog.

Gervé recently went out for what started as a drain cleanout. As he worked on the line, it became clear there was a bigger problem. At about 61 feet, he discovered a collapsed section of the sewer line. We were able to get some water flowing, but the condition of the pipe prevented us from properly cleaning the line.

Then the camera found something you definitely don’t see every day.

Water was actually spraying into the sewer line from the side of the pipe. Based on what we could see, the home’s incoming water line appears to run alongside the sewer and had developed a leak that was sending water directly into the sewer line.

Check out the video. That’s water spraying into the sewer, not water coming down the drain.

Unfortunately, sometimes our job is delivering bad news. When that happens, we believe it’s just as important to clearly show the customer what we found, explain what it means, and help them understand their next steps.

Anita had some kind words for Gervé afterward:

“Gervé was very professional, paid great attention to detail, and he explained things to me so I could understand. He was the best person, I would say, to break the bad news.”

She also appreciated that he left everything clean and even safely relocated a rather large spider that Anita was fully prepared to take care of herself!

Pizza belongs on your plate, not down your drain.
