Cemetery work is great (nobody talks back to you) but Stonecold Restorations ≠ a one-trick pony. The school sign project brought in some pocket change, and cleaning 18 golf course monuments was traded for a couple months of free golf. Win-Win.

The Adams Family Trust document specified "cleaning and annual maintenance of the monument and headstones in the Adams family plot" located in the Maplewood Cemetery in Durham, NC
The monument and headstones were covered with lichen, mold, dust and dirt. They were cleaned using D2 Biological Cleaner. After just a few days they were looking much better, and will whiten over time with sun and rainfall. A portion of the plot was overgrown with bushes, trees and poison ivy.

Nannie C. Styron (1854 - 1878) got married at age 18, and died at age 23. She had a child who died a couple months after she did at the age of 18 months. That's all we know about her. Her headstone announces that she's "Gone Home".

Meet the Howerton sisters. They only graced this world for a total of 88 days, but were certainly loved by their family.
Maud lived 35 days
Sarah Elizabeth lived 13 days
Mary Virginia lived 40 days
Their simple gravestones were covered with lichen and surrounded by fire ants.
It's a bit easier to honor them now with things cleaned up a bit.

While doing a small headstone cleaning job in the Old Chapel Hill Cemetery, I stumbled across the final resting place of the famous CBS newsman Charles Kuralt, famous for his "On the Road" segment on CBS evening news for 20 years.

So this was a gratifying job . . . the client had several flat headstones to be cleaned in the family plot, but also wanted some TLC on this large monument. It had accumulated algae and biological growth (and vines) over the years. Looks great now, and in another month with some sun and rain it will look even better.

The beautiful colors and nice temps were hard to pass up today. So I didn’t.
Marvin Douglas was born in 1892, the seventh of eight children in the family. He enlisted in the North Carolina 120th Infantry, 30th Division. The NC 30th Division fought in the Ypres-Lys Offensive, and the Somme Offensive from 1917 – 1919. History buffs will remember these World War 1 campaigns involved horrific trench warfare. Perhaps his rather short life can be attributed to the trauma of that, I don’t know. But his final resting place is peaceful, and now looks nice.
