If you haven't been to City Hall in the last couple weeks to renew your tabs I would love if you'd stop by Tuesday night. The City of Northfield, Minnesota is hosting a reception for all the new art on the walls provided by Flashover. I have nearly 25 images hanging in the public areas of city hall for all to see. If you can't make it Tuesday evening it is available to see anytime they are open and all of the images will be there through the end of February. Hope to see you there!

The community is invited to a reception for local photographer Aramis Wells at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20 at City Hall located at 801 Washington Street. Light refreshments start at 5:00 p.m. with remarks by the artist at 5:30 p.m. The artwork is meant to invoke wonder and the beauty of our natural world. Wells’ work will be on display in City Hall through the spring.

For Wells, this series isn’t just a collection of images; it’s an invitation to pause, wonder, and reflect on the magic woven into our everyday world.

“We are so fortunate in Minnesota to have some incredible natural areas and dark sky zones,” Wells said. “I hope that these pictures help remind you to take a moment and pause to see the beauty of the space around us and of the night sky.”

Among the pictures are familiar silhouettes, the old Waterford Bridge glowing beneath the Northern Lights, or Valley Grove Church framed by the shimmering stars. Wells, a lifelong Northfield resident, weaves his love for the town into his work. He’s captured not just the landscapes, but the spirit of Northfield, with a series on the Fire Department and the legendary Defeat of Jesse James Days Bank Raid Reenactment.

Each photograph tells a unique story: swirling Northern Lights, starlit skies, and snapshots from the Northfield area to the beauty of Minnesota's North Shore.

Wells’ journey behind the lens began more than 20 years ago, when he first picked up an Instamatic camera in high school. That simple act sparked a lifelong passion, one that has led him across the country from chasing the Milky Way and Northern Lights to witnessing three eclipses and countless breathtaking scenes. His photographs have previously been featured at the Paradise Center for the Arts in Faribault and will be featured at Split Rock Lighthouse in March and at Tettegouche State Park in October, where he’ll be featured as Artist of the Month.

I had a couple more images from the Edmond Fitzgerald Memorial at Split Rock Lighthouse on 11/10. They never made it to social media with the Northern Lights we had on the 11th. This was a 15 minute exposure as the light came on.

Tuesday afternoon I reached out to the Little Log House Pioneer Village and asked if I could bring some friends and shoot at there facility for possible northern lights. Light pollution was a big concern because the big show wasn't even expected till Wednesday night. Well as luck would have it we were given a show and we had this whole playground to shoot. Best part is this was only the first part of the night. We made a few more stops after this and made it to 4am. So this photo dump is just the first 4 hours.
