Something I think gets overlooked every fall…
Fast and right aren’t always the same thing in lawn care.
Everybody wants their aeration done. Companies have huge lists. Then Iowa gives us 9 days of rain and everybody starts trying to make up time.
Problem is, the lawn doesn’t care about our schedule.
Too wet and plugs start sticking to tires and equipment, things clump and get messy, and if you’re overseeding too, now you’re fighting consistent seed-to-soil contact.
Too dry and you’re not pulling the plugs you should.
Wait too long and now you’re fighting the calendar.
There’s a window.
And the bigger the company gets, that window doesn’t magically get bigger.
We can buy more aerators, add more crews and take on more customers.
But we can’t add another September. 😂
And honestly, this is why I’ll always support a good weekend warrior and good communication/transparency with us.
There are guys with one aerator, a pickup and 20 customers who REALLY give a s**t about doing it right. That’s how a lot of us started.
His problem is capacity. If it rains Saturday and Sunday, there goes his week.
The big company has more people and equipment, but its problem can become trying to force too much work through a window that Mother Nature controls.
So whether you hire us, another big company or some dude doing lawns after work…
Find somebody who understands timing and cares enough to tell you:
“Not today. Your lawn isn’t ready.”
Sometimes having a little patience with somebody who cares so much is better than calling around trying to find whoever can get there tomorrow.
Fast and right aren’t always the same thing.
