Here are some more finished pictures of the job we finished up yesterday in DeLand. One thing that comes up a lot on projects like this is color matching to existing pavers. In this case, the original patio is 7+ years old and has been sealed twice over the years. That matters more than most people realize. Paver colors donât stay exactly the same forever, especially here in Florida. Sun exposure, weather, and sealing all gradually shift and soften the original tones over time. On top of that, the original color blend used here (Chestnut/Charcoal from Belgard) is no longer manufactured, so an exact match simply isnât possible today.
After much research, speaking to suppliers, and going over samples with the customers, we used the closest modern blend available (Knightsbridge by Belgard) to tie everything together. Right now, youâll notice some variation between old and new, but thatâs completely normal when tying into an existing patio. With time, and once everything is cleaned and sealed, the color will deepen and blend much more naturally, bringing the whole space together.
One of the key things here we didn't post pictures of is the fact that this customer's driveway and lanai match the pavers we chose quite a bit more. Whether it's simply the original color blend during install or the fact that the back patio has been beaten by Florida weather, the section we tied into looked mostly brown, and didn't show much of the gray (charcoal) characteristics of the rest of the pavers on the property.
We always do everything we can to get a color match as close as possible, and the majority of the time, weâre right on the money. That said, when youâre tying into an existing patio, there are factors outside anyoneâs control. Age, sun exposure, and previous cleanings and sealings can all shift the original color over time, and in some cases the original blend is no longer even available. Situations like this can occasionally result in a variation thatâs not a perfect match, but itâs part of working with older materials, not a lack of attention or effort.
