SHE’S BEAUTY. SHE’S GRACE. SHE FINALLY HAS PROPER FILTRATION IN PLACE. 👑😂

Turns out Baby Baby Cloud had been using her pump basket as a community landfill.

Redwood debris? COME ON IN.
Mystery chunks in the plumbing? WHY NOT.
Functional filtration? Apparently optional. 💀

A filter clean, a little Riptide action, and some much-needed attention to the water flow later…

And listen, this is my first year running this business. I’ve survived my first absolutely insane summer, learned approximately 47 million things, and made it through some pretty questionable decisions. Like taking on two pool cleanups at once in 100-degree heat while my husband’s out of town. 😂

So YES, I’m going to stand here admiring my own work like I personally invented swimming pools.

Smart pool tech is a helpful lookout, not a substitute for hands-on pool care.

Connected controls can help you check settings, manage schedules, and see alerts. But an app can’t confirm the full water balance or spot every developing equipment issue on its own.

That’s why a pro still tests the water and checks the equipment in person. The screen gives you information. A thorough visit helps put it in context.

Eleven years closed.

Meet Baby Baby Cloud. ☁️🖤

She’s cloudy. She’s mysterious. She’s giving haunted lagoon, but make it ✨aesthetic✨.

And after some of the absolute SWAMP MONSTERS I’ve been cleaning lately, I was thrilled to have a little baby cleanup.

Until I shocked it, came back the next day, and…

NOTHING. HAD. CHANGED. 💀

Love that for me.

So instead of waiting around, we went straight for the filters. And let’s just say the previous owners and I might have different definitions of “regular maintenance.” 😂

But honestly? Those cartridges cleaned up BEAUTIFULLY.

Now we just needed to figure out why this pool was still acting like it had something to hide.

Itchy red eyes after a swim? It’s probably not the chlorine.

Eye irritation is often linked to pH that’s out of range or chloramines: the compounds formed when chlorine combines with sweat, sunscreen, and other contaminants.

Adding more chlorine without testing may miss the real issue. Test the water and balance the pH. If chloramines are present, shock or oxidize the water according to product directions.

Your chlorine can test “normal” and your pool can still turn green. Here’s why.

Cyanuric acid (CYA), also called stabilizer, protects chlorine from being burned off by the sun. That protection matters, but more is not better.

When CYA climbs too high, chlorine becomes less effective. This is what pool owners often call “chlorine lock”: chlorine shows up on the test, but it struggles to do its job.

Watch what keeps raising it:
• Chlorine tablets
• Stabilized shock, such as dichlor or trichlor
• Repeated additions without testing CYA

For most residential pools, a practical target is about 30–50 ppm CYA. Once it’s too high, adding more chlorine usually isn’t the real solution. A partial or complete drain and refill is typically the only reliable way to lower it.

That green water may not mean you need more chemicals. It may mean your stabilizer level is already working against you.

You just got the pool perfect and then here comes somebody with a leaf blower like, “Wow… this water looks way too clean.”

Five minutes later: dirt, leaves, grass clippings, mystery debris.

I like watching dead algae get sucked off the bottom of a swimming pool. 😭💚

LOOK AT THOSE VACUUM LINES.

An hour and a half of vacuuming and I was having the time of my life.

My back? Different story.

My PondoVac? Employee of the month. 🏆

And just when I thought we’d gotten through the worst of it, I remembered we still had to clean the filters.

Those things needed an exorcism.
