Right when I thought we seen it all, I get a call from a lovey lady that mentioned she needed a garage door installed on a hay bale house.

At first thinking it was a joke, the lady asked me to come by to look at it and I couldn’t resist. When I pulled up I was in awe! It was an actual HAY BALE HOUSE!!!

I met with the homeowner who was building the house herself and she spent a lot of time educating and telling about the structure, plans, and benefits to this design. She also informed me that she was the only one in DFW, possibly the whole state of Texas to build one. So with that said,

I’m proud to announce we are the only garage door company that has ever installed a garage door on a hay bale house in the state of Texas!!!!An achievement that I never knew existed. 😂

She still has a lot of work on the house as well as installing a type of mud over the hay bales to help protect and seal the hay. I would recommend going online and doing research on hay bale houses, it’s very interesting and very cost effective.

It always amazes me how open other garage door “companies” are. Here are a couple of things I’ve been told recently:

- “I don’t warranty anything, they can call someone else.”
- “I’m not going to waste money on insurance, I just tell them I have it. Hahahaha”
- “If I’m not leaving with at least $1,000 in my pocket then I’m going to break something on my way out so they call me again.”

These are actually conversations I have had with other garage door “professionals” that charge to do work at your house. Beware who you hire, and this goes with anyone, make sure they have all the correct credentials and make sure they are backed with multiple 5 star reviews and/or have a good recommendation from someone you trust.

It’s really sad when an 80 year old lady calls us worried that she may have been taken advantage of… and unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened. 😔

Another company charged her $5,000 for a simple repair and installed a low-quality operator you can buy at Home Depot. For that same price, we could have had a brand-new, double-steel insulated door with a high-end operator with all the bells and whistles.

To make it worse… they even asked her for a tip!🤯

This is why it’s so important to be careful and do your homework before hiring a garage door company. Not all companies operate with honesty and integrity.

**Why We Chose Genie Over LiftMaster**

Last year, we made a big change at Ideal Garage Doors by moving away from LiftMaster operators and installing more Genie Professional Line operators, and here’s why.

Over the past couple of years, LiftMaster has made some major “corporate moves” that haven’t always been in customers’ best interest. For example, they released new models and then discontinued older ones, making parts harder (or impossible) to get. That often means customers are forced into replacing instead of repairing. On top of that, prices seem to increase more and more often.

In our experience, Genie Professional Line operators outperform LiftMaster in almost every way. We can still get parts for Genie operators that are 10+ years old, which means we can fix them instead of replacing them. Their customer service is excellent, and their pricing stays fair and reasonable.

At Ideal Garage Doors, we believe in doing our homework and recommending products that are built to last, not just what’s trendy.
