A little trim repair + fresh paint can go a long way 😎

Here’s a painting-prep spot nobody really thinks about:

The top of the door and window trim. It can collect a surprising amount of dust because we almost never see it. If the trim is being repainted, that buildup needs to come off first instead of getting trapped under fresh paint.

Definitely not the glamorous part of painting.

Be honest…when was the last time you dusted the top of a door frame? 😂

Another 2027 Color of the Year was just announced, and we’re seeing a pattern. 👀

Behr chose Grounded, a mossy olive green with warm brown undertones. And honestly, colors in this earthy family can look really good in an actual home. We’ve seen homeowners gravitate toward warmer greens, clay tones and other colors that bring a little personality without feeling overly bright. Pair something like this with warm wood, cream, black accents or natural textures and it can feel surprisingly neutral.

Between Dutch Boy’s warm earthy orange and Behr going with olive green, it looks like warmer, nature-inspired color isn’t going anywhere for 2027.

Dutch Boy’s new 2027 Color of the Year is a warm earthy orange called Deeply Rooted.

We could see a shade like this working really well in spaces where you want a little more warmth like an office, powder room, built-ins, bedroom or even an accent area.

Here’s where choosing “white” gets surprisingly complicated.

Your walls might be white.
Your trim is white.
Your cabinets are white.

But that doesn’t mean they’re all the same white. One may have warmer undertones while another looks cooler. Put them beside your flooring, backsplash or countertops and those differences can suddenly become a lot easier to see.

The important part is looking at them together, in the actual space, before deciding.

If fall house projects are starting to creep into your brain, there’s a local event happening this weekend that may be worth checking out.

The Fort Worth Fall Home & Garden Show is August 28–30 at Will Rogers Memorial Center, and admission is free. Exhibitors cover everything from remodeling and painting to kitchens, baths, windows, landscaping and home technology.

Even if you’re nowhere near ready to start a project, sometimes looking around in person is the easiest way to figure out what you like (and what you don’t 😂).

Front entryway update done! 🖤

We recently repainted this front storm door and surrounding trim black, and it made such a difference!

I love how something as simple as changing up the paint can give the whole entryway a completely different look.

One question homeowners sometimes have is, “Why does the prep take so long?”

Before paint goes on, there may be holes to fill, cracks to repair, loose paint to remove, edges to sand and areas to protect.

That part may not be as exciting as watching the wall change color, but it can make a big difference in how the finished project looks and holds up! 😮‍💨

If you have leftover paint from a room, take a quick picture of the label before putting the can away.

The color name is helpful, but so is the brand, product line and sheen. Having that information can make buying more paint much easier later on. It takes about 30 seconds now and can save a lot of guessing later.
