Before & after of an iconic living room transformation!

Our design and build teams worked seamlessly together to bring this space to life—thoughtfully balancing our clients’ needs with the home’s modern aesthetic. Every detail was considered, especially this angled fireplace wall, which called for precise planning and expertly crafted custom millwork.

The end result is a space that feels both intentional and effortless—tailored to the way our clients live, while elevating the overall design of the home.

Running a residential construction company involves a lot more than what you see on the jobsite.

Recently, our CEO sat down with Eric Fortenberry, CEO of JobTread, for the Builder Stories podcast to talk about what happens behind the scenes of growing a construction company.

In the episode, “How to Break Out of the Owner Operator Trap,” they discuss the transition many builders face as they grow — moving from doing everything themselves to building strong teams, clear systems, and processes that allow projects to run smoothly.

For homeowners, this is the work that often happens long before construction begins — refining processes, improving communication, and building the kind of team that can guide a project from design to completion with care and attention to detail.

If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to run a design-build company or what goes on behind the scenes of your renovation project, this conversation offers a glimpse into that journey.

🎧 The episode is now live on JobTread’s website.

The construction industry is better because of the women building it.

If you didn’t know, this week is
But honestly… I’m not sure why we need a special week.
We should be celebrating the women in this industry every single week!

At Darden-Hines Design+Build, I get to work alongside two incredible women every day — Kenadee Ramsey (our Director of Administration) and Paige Bryant (our Director of Design).
These two have helped shape our company from the inside out. Yes, they do amazing work in and on our business, but what really stands out is the talent, strength, knowledge, and grace they bring to our team day in and day out. I’ve had a front-row seat watching them grow into their roles and help push our whole company forward.

They make DHDB better every single day.

Grateful for both of you — and proud to have you on our team.

President and CEO

This wasn’t an afterthought.

These pool storage compartments were intentionally designed into the concrete and stone deck from the very beginning, because great design plans for how a space will live long before it’s built.

Framed, custom fabricated, and finished with tile that mimics natural rusted steel — every detail deliberately considered.

Integrated. Functional. Built to last.

Swipe to see it come together from framing to final install.

A little glimpse into what’s taking shape ✨
This soon-to-be fireplace feature wall is all about contrast, texture, and warmth — fluted wood detailing, black built-ins for extra seating and storage, and a floating mantle for the finishing touch.

Solving Ceiling Design Challenges

Flat ceilings can feel uninspired, especially in outdoor living areas. For this covered patio, we installed tongue-and-groove planks with exposed beams to draw the eye upward and create visual interest. The vaulted gable design was intentionally set at an angle to provide an unobstructed view of the backyard, making the space feel more open and connected to the outdoors. Every element — from the beam placement to the lighting layout — was designed with purpose, creating a structure that feels elevated, intentional, and built to last.

Design Trend Spotlight | Forest Hills Project

This kitchen is proof that functionality and bold design can go hand in hand.

From the custom floating shelves—crafted in custom fabricated black steel mounts and white oak planks—to the seamless integration of matte black & rift sawn white oak cabinetry, every detail reflects the modern-meets-industrial trend that’s dominating 2025 interiors.

The contrast of natural and dark elements creates a clean, architectural look that feels both grounded and elevated.

At Darden-Hines, we don’t just follow the trends—we bring them to life with intention, craftsmanship, and a whole lot of style.

G&R Grocery & Market

Darden-Hines LLC were tasked with the re-design & finish out of G&R Grocery & Market in San Saba, TX. G&R was founded in 1973 by Edward Ragsdale and Pudge Gage. Since then it had been a thriving small town independent grocery located on the town square. Edward decided it was time to hand over the baton to a new generation of grocer and Tony Jacobs Jr., a local businessman, took the challenge.

Tony told us that he wanted to keep the overall look and feel of the original G&R but update it for today’s demanding grocery customer. We had the chance to ask Edward if seeing his store transformed was bittersweet and his response was “Tony is making my dreams come true!” A visit is a must for you to truly see the transformation that has taken place in this Hill Country gem. And when you stop in ask if Edward is around, he’ll most likely be helping around the store, with the biggest smile you’ve seen in a while.

These are the problems Darden-Hines solved for the G&R project:

  • Store Plans (shelving/case layout, electrical, plumbing)
