An intimate courtyard was designed to house a large scale sculpture and to provide privacy from passersby. The walls were constructed using custom-built steel frames and specified glass panels. The planting inside the courtyard was minimal so that the focus inside the courtyard would be on the sculpture itself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Numerous steel planter boxes were designed to frame the driveway and front yard gardens. In order to enhance the area adjacent to the front door, we selected three concrete planters and planted them with 'Blue Atlas' weeping cedar trees. The side yard, which was to be developed as well, is framed by floor to ceiling windows on two sides and a focal point from inside the home. Because this area of the garden is west-facing, the homeowner considered planting trees, however, due to the confined space, we all liked the idea of using large steel containers to house trees, herbs and plantings with gravel paths on all sides.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Another sculpture, which was not initially in use, was mounted to a concrete footer that was poured on site and placed near two small windows that were original to the property.

This modern home was deserving of a minimalist approach to the landscaping and architectural features. The front yard was designed around several pieces of art which the homeowners purchased.

Q: When should I plant new vegetation for the Fall?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A: New vegetation is best planted in early Spring, early Summer, and Fall. Planting during Fall is ideal, so plants have an opportunity to acclimate to new surroundings during Fall and into Spring but before Summer really sets in.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We designed an herb and that was both aesthetically pleasing and functional. Intending to have free-range chickens, the goal was to dedicate specific beds to a kitchen garden and the remaining beds to free-range chickens.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The gardens were designed at ground height where one row could be exposed for feeding while the others were covered. The feeding cycles would help turn the soil and keep the land fresh.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We planted espaliered apple trees because they are easy to train, grow in a confined space, and fruit is brought down to eye level which makes harvesting easy. We chose Anna and Gala apple varieties which are well suited for North Texas.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While traveling in Europe our clients noticed bocce ball courts were common among the gardens. They had played a few games and wanted to incorporate a court of their own into the renovation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Then we designed a tiered lawn separated the walking space from the exterior trees and seating areas. Italian Cypress and Hollies frame the perimeter to complete the European garden design.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What an incredible space. We love creating custom gardens that bring our client’s dreams to life! 🌿
