‘Easy Does It’🌹 has always been one of my favorite rose cultivars to date. The name really stands for itself, a fragrant and resilient rose that is not usually plagued by our climate. I think half of why I love this rose, is for it’s name. In fact, I’m whispering ‘easy does it’ to myself as I say hello to spring- though it’s felt like spring since late February. This is my 18th spring in the industry and my 9th spring in business with and even though, I’ve spent half my life gardening professionally, I’ve spent most of my free time outdoors my entire life. Spring is long days of beautiful chaos and it challenges me and teaches me something new every year. That’s why I love gardening, for its mystery- because it’s impossible to know everything about plants and nature🌿 Not everyday gardening is a “stop and smell the roses” kind of day but I try too every now again, in the fury that is spring- or that is life. I hope you do too 🧡

Deck the yards will rolls of frost cloth,

Tis’ the season to be frosty ☃️

The 🥶 is arriving just in time for the winter solstice making North Texas a less fashionably white Christmas- white with frost cloth! It is imperative to cover your sensitive plants and move in your tropicals by tomorrow night. Temperatures will drop rapidly Thursday so you will want to beat the cold front! I like to double up protection by using a layer of frost cloth & plastic drop cloth for better insulation. Be sure to tent your beds or pots with wooden stakes to prevent frost cloth from crushing soft wooded plants. Looking for more frost cloth? North Haven Gardens has a great selection of frost cloth in various sizes. You can find the plastic drop cloth at hardware stores in the paint section. ❄️

Three months ago I started my fall vegetable garden by mostly seed! Fall vegetable gardening has become my favorite season by far 🥦🥕✨ In the past I have usually bought transplants, but doing it by seed has been more even more rewarding this year 👩🏻‍🌾! My goal each fall is to have my crops ready by day, so I can’t wait to incorporate my veggies into my meal! What are you cooking this year? 🌿

I’ve been a little quiet or “dormant” this year on socials because I’ve been working on a new project and I’m excited to finally share it with you! This year has been my 17th year of working in the horticulture industry and I celebrated my 8th year in business on Monday! While I’ve enjoyed connecting my clients to plants and nature over the years, something has been calling on me to do so in a different way. I’m excited to share that I started coursework at this fall to become a horticultural therapist! As a horticultural therapist I will be able to provide therapeutic gardening to assist people with various mental health needs and physical & developmental disabilities. I hope to work with the public and individuals creating healing gardens and refine my services for Flower Child Plants🥲👩🏻‍🌾💚 Please check out my new page The Resilient Gardener to learn more and follow my journey!

Getting warm fall colors can be a challenge in the shady spots when considering flowers alone. I love incorporating foliage plants in containers and fall displays. Huechera, sedges, ligularia & brunnera are an interesting selection from our regular fall plants. These plants can grow in shade but they do best in bright filtered light or with a few hours of sun early in the day. I’ve had great luck with these evergreen perennials in containers for many seasons. In ground, be sure to amend the soil well with expanded shale and acidified compost as they thrive in areas with rich well draining soils. I picked up these lovely foliage plants at North Haven Gardens 🍁

Perennial planters are a great alternative to seasonal color. This drought tolerant mix includes agave, sedum, bulbine, coreopsis & euphorbia and will provides seasons of interest. We planted this container for at one of her recent installs!
