PVC Pipe Association

PVC Pipe Association The authoritative source of information on gasketed PVC pipe.

Our mission is to promote use of longer-life, lower-maintenance, corrosion-proof PVC pipe in water and wastewater systems – for real sustainability, strength and long-term asset management. The Association offers free technical and engineering support for the design, installation and application of PVC piping systems. Attributes of PVC pipe include:

• Lowest break rate of all water pipe materials

• Safe, easy-to-install, and cost-effective
• Lowest independently verified life-cycle embodied energy
• 70 years of use in North America with in excess of 100+ years of confirmed service life
• Most commonly specified material for water and sewer projects
• Lowest environmental impacts and carbon footprint according to ISO 14040/14025 and NSF International

Utilities and public works directors can contact the PVC Pipe Association to discuss use of PVC pipe for their water and sewer systems whether for new developments or replacement.

Pipe Issues Blog: PFAS Substances - Not a Concern for PVC Pipe

Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of more than 4,700 compounds made up of fluorinated carbon chains used in the aerospace, automotive, construction, cosmetics, clothing, and electronics industries, and in products like firefighting foam and non-stick cookware. Some PFAS have been found to be harmful to human health.

This blog assures utilities and their customers that PVC pipe does not contribute to the presence of PFAS in drinking water. More than seven decades of use in the U.S. and Canada show conclusively that PVC pipe is the safest choice for long-term, reliable delivery of clean drinking water.

City of Broken Arrow, OK, Improves Water Quality and Reliability with PVC Water Mains

“The roadway will remain closed until April 22 while city crews replace an 8-inch cast iron water main with a new 12-inch PVC water main. The work is intended to improve water quality and reliability as part of the Old Town Waterline Improvement Project.”

Drivers in Old Town should plan for a monthlong road closure as crews begin work to replace an aging water main.A section of Houston Street (81st St.) will be c

Technical Blog: Cold Weather Has No Practical Effect on PVC Pipe Installation and Use

Claims from competitors suggest PVC pipe is not suitable for cold-weather projects. The evidence tells a different story.

PVC pipe has been in service across North America since the 1950s and has proven performance in cold climates, including Canada, Minnesota, and the Dakotas. Cold weather is not a limiting factor for PVC projects. In many cases, installation can be even more manageable in difficult weather because PVC is easy to cut, handle, and assemble.

The PVC Pipe Association (PVCPA) technical brief reviews how PVC performs in cold temperatures, including design considerations, handling and installation practices, and normal operations.

The key takeaway is clear: with proper installation practices and a focus on worker safety, PVC pipe remains a logical and reliable choice for cold-weather projects.

North Lebanon Township Municipal Authority, PA Replaces Corroded Ductile Iron Pipe Force Mains with PVC Pipe

“The North Lebanon Township Municipal Authority will replace two force mains needed to pump wastewater uphill before gravity takes it to the City of Lebanon Authority’s treatment plant. The ductile pipes are corroding due to hydrogen sulfide present in wastewater, said Amber Royles-Eby, administrative assistant. Both force mains will be replaced with PVC pipe.”

Three Lebanon County municipal authorities and two boroughs will receive $1.4 million in state funds from the PA Small Water and Sewer program for improvement projects to their water or wastewater systems.

🔹 Installation of PVC Water and Sewer Piping Systems
April 1, 2026 | 10:30 AM CST
This webinar provides the most up-to-date information available on installation practices for gasketed PVC water and sewer pipes and fittings as well as answer frequently asked questions. Properly installed pipelines ensure best performance and maximum design life for underground infrastructure.

🔹 Tapping Small- and Large-Diameter PVC Water Pipe
April 22, 2026 | 10:30 AM CST
This webinar reviews tapping procedures for both small- and large-diameter gasketed PVC pressure pipe. The presentation will include instructional diagrams and photos. “Tapping” involves drilling a hole into a main-line pipe to attach a branch line. It’s often done with the main line under full pressure, so specialized techniques have been developed to streamline the installation process.
