These Frisco homeowners had a common problem—their bathtub took up a huge amount of valuable space, while the shower they actually used every day felt too small.

So we changed the layout completely.

We removed the existing tub and shower and transformed the entire area into one large, modern walk-in shower. 🚿

Remember those 6 stain samples? Here’s what the homeowners chose… 👀

This hardwood refinishing project in Prosper, Texas started with beautiful 5" #1 red oak floors that had seen years of wear and scratching.

But condition wasn't the only issue.

The original floor had strong red tones that no longer complemented the homeowners' newly remodeled paint colors. They wanted something lighter, more natural and more current — without replacing their existing hardwood.

After listening to what they wanted and looking at the existing red oak, I recommended DuraSeal Weathered Oak before we even started sanding.

Once the old finish was removed, we sampled six lighter options directly on the freshly sanded floor. This allowed the homeowners to see the stains on their actual red oak, in their home, with their lighting and new paint colors.

It eventually came down to Fruitwood vs. Weathered Oak.

Weathered Oak won. 🙌

We completed the transformation with DuraSeal Weathered Oak and Bona Mega ONE water-based polyurethane.

The result is exactly what we were trying to achieve: the beautiful character and grain of the original red oak are still there, but the heavy red appearance is dramatically reduced and the floor now works beautifully with the remodeled home.

Same hardwood. Completely different feel.

**This hardwood transformation in Prosper, TX is still in progress… 👀**

These 5" #1 red oak floors had years of wear, scratches, and strong red tones that no longer worked with the homeowners' newly remodeled paint scheme.

After listening to what they wanted and looking at the existing floor, I recommended **DuraSeal Weathered Oak — before we even started sanding.**

But we don't choose a hardwood stain from a tiny sample card.

Once we sanded the floors back to raw red oak, we put **6 lighter options directly on their floor** so the homeowners could see how each one looked with their actual wood, natural lighting, and new paint colors.

The final two:

**Weathered Oak vs. Fruitwood.**

After a little husband-and-wife deliberation 😄, **Weathered Oak won** — the same color I'd recommended from the beginning.

We're using **DuraSeal Weathered Oak** and protecting the finished floor with **Bona Mega ONE water-based polyurethane** to maintain the lighter, more natural look the homeowners wanted.

The polyurethane is curing and the furniture isn't back yet, so…
