Watch Out for Winter Rodents!
As temperatures drop, mice and rats look for warm places to hide-and your home is at the top of their list. They squeeze through tiny gaps, chew wires, contaminate food, and cause serious damage before you ever see them.
Here are some rodent tips to help keep your home rodent free:
✅Seal gaps around doors, vents, and pipes
✅Keep firewood and clutter away from the house
✅Don't ignore scratching noises or droppings
If you want to keep rodents outside where they belong, Trees Hurt Too can help protect your home this winter.
📞Call us before mice move in-once they're inside, it's already a problem.

Tick season in North Texas does not end when summer does. Ticks remain active through September and October across Tarrant County, and the mild Texas climate keeps them viable well past the point when most homeowners stop thinking about them. September is still very much tick season in Fort Worth, Arlington, and surrounding communities. However, the drop in awareness that comes with cooler fall weather creates real risk.

Click the link to learn about which tick species are active in North Texas, where ticks hide in yards, which diseases they carry, how to remove a tick correctly, and how yard perimeter treatments reduce tick pressure through fall.

Oak Leaf Drop in Fall: Normal vs. Disease in North Texas

Oak leaf drop in fall in North Texas does not mean the same thing for every oak. Whether leaves falling from your tree signals a healthy seasonal cycle or a disease problem depends entirely on which species you have. Getting that distinction wrong can lead a homeowner to ignore a serious problem or panic over a completely normal process.

North Texas has two fundamentally different oak situations in fall. Deciduous oaks, including red oak, Shumard oak, water oak, post oak, and bur oak, drop their leaves in fall as a normal part of their dormancy cycle. October and November leaf drop on these species is expected and healthy. Texas live oaks behave very differently. Live oaks are semi-evergreen and do not drop leaves in fall as part of their normal cycle. Live oak leaf drop occurs in spring, not fall.

That means a live oak dropping significant numbers of leaves in September or October is not going through its normal cycle. It is under stress, responding to disease, or experiencing a root problem. Knowing the difference between these two situations guides every decision about whether and how to respond.
