Temperature and humidity tell you two different things.

Your thermostat can say the house is cool while the air still feels heavy or sticky.

And for families dealing with asthma or allergies, humidity is especially worth understanding because it can cause triggers like dust mites to flourish.

Just start by knowing your number.

Follow us for more tips on keeping humidity lower and your air healthier.

Eighteen years. More technicians than this homeowner could remember. And still no real answer.

When we came in, the goal wasn't to sell them a new system or add-ons they didn't need. It was to dig into the problem, explain what we found, and give them options they hadn't heard before.

Thank you for trusting The General and for sharing your experience with us!

If you've been living with a comfort problem that no one seems to be able to solve, our Home Comfort Diagnostic is designed to help get to the root of it: https://thegeneralhvac.com/home-comfort-diagnostic/

“I’m just going into the attic to look at the ducts.”

Also Sampson: 😷

Fiberglass and insulation are not something he plays around with. If he’s heading into an attic where he may be exposed to airborne fibers and dust, the respiratory protection goes on.

We take air quality seriously. Including our own.

Does he look a little ridiculous?

Maybe.

Are his lungs protected?

Yep. 😂

Temperature gets all the attention in a Texas summer. For families dealing with asthma and allergies, I want you paying attention to humidity too.

Higher indoor humidity creates more favorable conditions for things like dust mites and other allergens. So if someone in your home deals with allergies or asthma, your thermostat has another number worth checking.

Look at the humidity.

Around 45% to 50% is a good target.

If your home is consistently above 60%, here are a few simple things to do:

➡️Set your thermostat to AUTO instead of ON. Less moisture circulating while the AC isn’t actively cooling.

➡️Use the bathroom exhaust fan during showers and the kitchen exhaust while cooking. Both help with everyday moisture spikes.

➡️And good ole faithful: change your filter. A loaded filter can restrict airflow, and your AC needs the right airflow to remove moisture.

If you’ve checked the simple things and your humidity still hangs out above 60%, it’s worth figuring out why so your family can breathe easier.

Before and after: blower wheel cleaning

“What the hell is a blower wheel and why should I care?” You may be wondering 😆

It’s a major part of your indoor HVAC unit. The thing that move the air through the system to be cooled and throughout your home.

That buildup on the blower wheel blades can affect how well your HVAC system moves air through your home.

Clean blower blades help the wheel do the job it was designed to do: move air.

Pretty important!

Blower wheel cleaning is one way we, at The General are Commanding Comfort & Clean Air

During a general inspection, Sampson spotted issues this homeowner said they never would have caught on their own.

That's why we believe a good inspection isn't about rushing through a checklist. It's about knowing what to look for, explaining what you find, and giving you an honest picture of your system.

Thank you for the five-star review!

Homeownership has enough surprises.

Your air conditioner doesn't have to be one of them.

Our membership plans include 24/7 HVAC monitoring because we'd rather help you catch a change early than have you discover it when your upstairs is suddenly 85 degrees.

Will it prevent every repair?

No.

Will it give you more peace of mind, earlier awareness, and a team that's already in the loop when something changes?

Absolutely.

That's exactly why we offer it.

You can compare the plans at TheGeneralHVAC.com/membership, or call or text us at (832) 558-8539.

Because sometimes peace of mind is not “nothing will ever go wrong.”

It is knowing someone is already paying attention when it does.

So what we’re not gonna do is make people feel dumb for not knowing “simple” concepts.

This was a comment on my “Why Your Upstairs Is Hotter Than Downstairs” on YT and it demonstrates so beautifully why homeowners are afraid to ask questions and feel confused and vulnerable when it comes to managing their home.

Imagine is this individual was your contractor 😫

I’ve spent my entire professional life educating people about all sorts of things from simple to extremely complex because I know, education builds empowerment.

And educated and empowered people make better choices for themselves…and they feel better too!

Nothing has changed now that I’m an HVAC company owner. That’s the reason I started this channel and will keep recording.

So if you want HVAC and homeowner knowledge broken down so you can understand subscribe to on YouTube.

If you’re lucky you may get a little snark from Dr. Toya too 😆

A well-organized van is the first sign of a well-run HVAC company.

Every ladder, gauge, and fitting in Sampson's van has an assigned place, a habit built over ten years maintaining flight line equipment in the U.S. Air Force.

When the technician arrives at your home, the visit starts organized and stays that way.
