I'll tell you what I put in my own house.

My last house had Andersen casements. The house I live in now has Andersen casements, patio doors, French doors, shaped windows — every window in the house is an Andersen. It was built in the mid-90s and those windows still work great. They still look great. They function like they should.

That's a pretty good testament.

We didn't always sell them. Years ago we sold Pella. We sold a bunch of vinyl lines. We sold Marvin last. Andersen approached us about becoming a certified contractor, and I looked at the products, and I thought about the two houses I'd lived in with those windows, and I figured — you know what, they're a good product. Let's go.

That's the whole reason. Not a spiff. Not a sales meeting.

Two contractors quote the same house and the numbers are thousands apart. Here's a reason almost nobody explains to you.

A casement window is priced per sash, not per opening. One wide opening usually can't be filled by a single casement — it takes two, plus a fixed panel in the middle. So a house with fifty openings might be quoting a hundred-plus units.

Rhett put it plainly: "The price just multiplies up for every window. Those people are a little shocked when they've got fifty, sixty casements."

Before you compare bids, count sashes, not openings. And ask each bidder whether they priced full-frame or insert — those are not the same job wearing different numbers.
