Soooo,
Ive been working on converting this pergola into a dry roof top.
I took the rafters all down and cleared all the pieces and reused what was there to make rafters in preparation of roof metal so these lovely folks can sit and enjoy the world in the rain out there. The parts between the original rafters were causing the tops of the frame to rot, so taking them off there will only extend the life of the thing.
The center rafter I left and used it as the ridge, it's quite shallow, but has plenty of fall. Nothing is square on the frame, so I could make one rafter and use for template I had to create one from measurement each time! Worked out nicely. My skills have improved a lot over the years, I mean look at those bird mouths!!! Close to perfect as I'd wanna be!
P.s. I did the rails a few weeks ago, and re covered all the decking here.
