A little shoutout to another local woman-owned trade business — Brightside Electrical LLC.

I’ve had the chance to work with Sam, and one of the things I appreciate most about her is that she doesn’t just come in, do the electrical work, and leave.

Apparently you’re supposed to keep up on social media when you own a business. Whoops!

I blinked and somehow summer disappeared. But it disappeared in the best possible way.

Busy building. Busy learning. Busy growing Done by Design. Busy working with some pretty incredible customers and local trades. Busy taking on bigger projects. Busy getting s**t done.

There were kitchens, bathrooms, custom carpentry, doors, repairs and even a little something for myself. A whole lot of problem solving. And probably more trips to the hardware store than I care to count.

And somewhere in there, Done by Design grew up a little.

I’ve been terrible at posting it, but I’m really proud of what’s been happening behind the scenes.

So before I start catching up on some of these projects individually, here’s a little Done by Design: Summer in Review.

Another classic reset for a truly classic family.

It was a tight footprint with an outdated shower. Not a lot working in our favor on this 1950s home—but we made it work.

• Custom tile shower
• Matte black fixtures
• Basketweave floor (because details matter)
• Clean, simple, functional layout

All while maintaining the charm and history of the home. This is the kind of project I love— so much more than just a modern copy and paste update. It’s a timeless reset.

That’s a wrap on this full bathroom remodel!

We went with a clean black and white palette — classic subway tile, hex floor, matte black fixtures, and a curbless shower that keeps the space feeling open and accessible.

Small bathrooms can still make a big impact when the details are done right. Really proud of how this one came together.

On to the next one!

Done by Design is officially one year old!

This year has been filled with opportunity, problem-solving, creativity, and partnerships that mean more than I can put into words. I’ve learned a ton, grown even more, and had the privilege of building alongside some incredible people.

And I can confidently say — working with my hands beats a day full of Zoom calls.

Grateful for all of you who made this year possible. Cheers to what’s next!

Measure. Template. Adjust. Perfect.

Shower floors (especially curbless) don’t leave room for “close enough.”
The drain has to land perfectly. The cuts have to make sense. The pattern has to feel intentional.

This 1890s German Village kitchen came with low ceilings and big potential.

We kicked off this full remodel with the most intimidating part first: a full ceiling lift.

Drywall is now hung and finished ✔️
Which means… cabinets are officially getting ordered!

The light. The height. The transformation already.

Apparently… there’s also a surprise inside every ceiling cavity 😬

Old electrical that should have been removed years ago — and absolutely not something you want hanging out above your head.

Another reminder: old houses have stories… and sometimes they need a little correcting.
