Oak/Pine Savannah burn in Southern, OH. This is the 2nd time we’ve burned this site with a tree thinning between and it just keeps getting better. More plant diversity, more wildlife usage. Made possible by chainsaws, drip torches and people who care. We have a multi year video of the process of restoring this Savannah coming later this summer. Stay tuned for the next update from Pine Meadow this summer, during peak bloom!

Nesting season is almost here. If you have a water source lacking natural cavities these duck houses are ideal for wood duck nesting. Mallards will use a similar artificial nesting structure called a hen house. Nest success is significantly higher when the nest is over water out of easy reach from nest predators. We have some limited capacity to produce wood duck houses, mallard hen houses and blue bird houses. Drop a DM or website inquiry for pricing and availability. Pickup only in Central, OH. If you lack a water source, we can assist with wetland and small pond construction. As always, maintain quality native habitat around your water sources to support the needs of all wildlife

200”+ Ohio Whitetail. Legally harvested Oct. 2025 at 234”. 3 years post native habitat restoration by two neighbors in this bucks core area. We led one of the projects and it was top 2 most difficult of all time due to intense encroachment of non-native invasives from the surrounding area (thanks to ) plus rich bottomland soils that makes everything grow like wildfire.

Keep invasives plants out and the eco-system will reward you in many ways. You don’t have to own it to steward it. Every hunter, wildlife and plant lover should be a habitat manager and supporting our conservation organizations if you have the means to do so

1 piece of ground at a time, we restore order and balance to the eco-system. On this one, 45 year old invasive burning bush and Amur honey suckle had these woodlands in a choke hold. With great pleasure, we got the chainsaws out to wind back time and bring back the native plants that we love and wildlife depend on.

Don’t let invasive species have an inch on your property, whether a suburb lot or large farm. We are the guardians protecting eco-logical function and native plant diversity. Wildlife are depending on us.

Video coming to YouTube from this project where we go over all the details of how we were able to cover 60 acres in 7 days for phase 1, of the 2 year project.

A few years behind and in need of a small army? Drop an inquiry on the website. We’re looking for every piece of ground we can protect and restore the native eco-system.

This technique for controlling unwanted woody species is called a basal treatment. It’s not an exciting task but it’s necessary and critical to control non-native invasive plant species growing in your native habitat. Skip this step or don’t get thorough control and they will make you pay in time, blood, sweat and $.

This is how we get a huge jump in the dormant season to set our native habitat restoration projects up for success. Control the ones dropping seed and you will slow the spread, but eliminating all will give the best results. It allows you to work in the comfort of cooler temps, without bugs and leaves on the thick shrubs. Do it correctly and target species will not come out of dormancy. Sunlight is restored to adjacent native species as soon as spring arrives. This method has very little off target damage when done in the dormant season. As always wear PPE, read the label, and choose an alternative method if working near water ways. For very large invasives, cut them with a saw and spray the stump. Works great on smooth barked trees too. Spray 360 degrees around the stem. Run a gps tracker like and use dye to know where you’ve treated.

Share this with a friend who needs to control some woody invasives!
