Fire when used correctly and in conjunction with other management practices like invasive species control and tree thinning heals the land and supports life 🌎🌱🌼 This Oak Savannah is teaming with bio diversity and is lush green only 1 month after a hot prescribed fire

3 fires in 6 years just to keep up with woody succession on this South facing southern Ohio ridge. These fires promote a diverse high quality herbaceous layer that’s useable by a wide variety of wildlife. Well planned firebreaks are a must for frequent fire. There’s not a better way to manage large chunks of habitat.

We’ve eradicated over 1000+ acres of non-native invasive multiflora rose while managing habitat here in the Midwest. Don’t mistake the non-native multi-flora rose with our native roses. Carolina and swamp rose are our 2 most common native roses. Sorry I couldn’t show you a non-native multi-flora example, we’ve controlled them for multiple years on this property and it’s difficult to find one now! Don’t let multi-flora rose over take your land. It will grid lock you and the wildlife out! Need a source for native roses? Reach out on nativelandscapesohio.com for assistance! Enjoy native rose bloom season! Be careful when controlling its invasive counterpart!

Oak/Pine Savannah burn in Southern, OH. This is the 2nd time we’ve burned this site with a tree thinning between and it just keeps getting better. More plant diversity, more wildlife usage. Made possible by chainsaws, drip torches and people who care. We have a multi year video of the process of restoring this Savannah coming later this summer. Stay tuned for the next update from Pine Meadow this summer, during peak bloom!
