Dream office built-in!

This one was a fun change from your typical builder-grade cabinets. The large crown, detailed trim, and full built-in layout really make a statement in the room.

The doors and shelving were finished in the shop, while the built-in itself got a lot of on-site prep. And when I say a lot, I mean a lot. Filling, sanding, caulking, more sanding, and making sure all the little details came together clean.

Finish work is about 90% prep and 10% applying coatings, and projects like this are a perfect example of that.

There always seem to be two sides when it comes to cabinets and wood the people who would never paint over stained wood (why would you cover beautiful wood! 🤯), and the people who are all for it. 😂

But I really think refinishing this bar area completely changed the feel of the space. The Tricorn Black gave it separation from the kitchen colors and added a nice pop! A professional finish paired with the matte sheen adds a wonderful level of elegance without giving a “painted feeling”.

What are your thoughts? Stained or Painted!?!

Challenging vanity… but worth it.

This Tiffany link inspired piece had tons of tight corners and small details that required extra prep and patience especially with the HDF drawer fronts.

After careful sealing, multiple rounds of high build primer, TONS of hand sanding, and a sprayed cabinet grade topcoat, this vanity now has the smooth durable finish it deserves.

Golden Oak Cabinet Transformation!

This kitchen started as a classic golden oak finish, and oak is always one of the most challenging woods to refinish because of its deep grain structure.

Grain showing through paint isn’t a bad thing it’s natural but it has to be consistent, or the finish can look patchy and uneven.

This project was especially difficult because the previous coating left the oak grain filled inconsistently, so we adjusted our approach with fillers, high-build primers, and multiple sand-backs to create a smooth, uniform result.

We also added missing toe kick and quarter round to give everything a complete look.

Other options to keep things stained are also available if paint isn’t your thing, what do you think about this transformation?

A few Douglas fir exterior doors had some pre-mature finish failure that wasn’t completed by North Star Finishing. Opting for new doors vs a full strip and refinish.

New doors doesn’t mean they always come pristine - the first two replacements were deemed inadequate with the damages. The second two while damage was present we did what we could to try and make corrections.

These recieved a true 2k industrial exterior wood coating to handle Tennessee weather!
