It’s fall bird migration season in Chicago, and a critical moment for bird-friendly design policy!
Over 1 billion birds die each year in the US due to colliding with clear or reflective glass, which they cannot see. With the large amount of glass in Chicago and our location on a major route for migratory birds, our city poses a great danger to millions of avian visitors each spring and fall.
Chicagoans, now is our chance to protect birds and all the benefits they bring by asking your Alderperson to Co-Sponsor and vote YES on the proposed Bird-Friendly Building Design Ordinance introduced to the City Council. Twenty-one Alders have committed to co-sponsoring the ordinance, but at least five more are needed to pass it. If you live in Wards 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 14, 17, 27, 39, or 50, your advocacy is especially important.
