ANALOG RAM:The Return Of Active Memory
April 8th, 2016 through April 29th, 2016
Opening reception, April 8th

Have "modern" humans finally surrendered their memories to the semiconductor, the machine, the memory chip? This question has been answered by over 100 School of the Art Institute of Chicago students who, since 2009,
have produced an incredible collection of drawings produced exclusively from active recall. Daily life, the mundane and pedestrian, and the spectacle of urban existence are all represented here with the depth of whimsy and emotion that only brain processing can deliver. This is one of the largest collaborative student drawing projects to have ever come out of the SAIC. Mary Lou Zelazny conceived and nurtured this project for over seven years, which had its origins in her SAIC classroom studio: "Figure Painting; From Photography to Memory." This exhibition celebrates the originality and flexibility of our students who are quite open to the
promotion of mind over microchip. Held at the Research House for Asian Art, this comprehensive presentation marks not only the 150 year anniversary of SAIC, but the contributions and growing partnership with Asian countries and of SAIC's richly diverse student community.
