I’m trying to expand my watercolor painting beyond birds (and the occasional pet portrait). I LOVE photographing national parks and nature in general and would like to paint them too. In my experience, acrylics and oils make it easier to capture textures and rich color but then I do pretty well painting with birds... What do you all think? Maybe I just need more practice?

I’m trying to expand my watercolor painting beyond birds (and the occasional pet portrait). I LOVE photographing national parks and nature in general and would like to paint them too. An American Robin I snapped and then painted. I didn’t edit this photo, the sun was coming through the tree like a spotlight. When I tried to capture the lighting in the picture (in the painting), it just didn’t look true to eye so I muted it a but. Still happy with how it turned out. Cornell Lab of Ornithology
