Holy sh*t…. 39 already? Wild. Took the day to relax and reset.

I’ve been busy lately, and the shop definitely looks like it. But today the light was hitting right, the vibe felt right, so figured it was time for another Shop Vibes post.

Grateful for good people, good health, family, friends, clients, and everyone who’s been part of the ride.

Now I’m just going to act like 39 is still young.

Mozambique all the way through on this build. The goal was simple, let the material speak and make it feel like it belongs in the space. Really happy with how this one came out.

Had a few people sweating for a second… April Fools! Kinda.

Not closing anything down, just closing the books for Spring into early Summer. Just fully booked!

Seriously though, I appreciate every single project, referral, and message. You guys keep this thing rolling.

Walked into the shop today and everything just felt right. The sun was warm, the air finally above freezing, and there was that quiet kind of creativity just sitting there. Not rushed. Not loud. Just ready for next week.

Some days the shop hums. Some days it breathes. Today it felt perfect.

I have spent some time updating the website to make it easier to see what I build, how I work, and how to get a project started.

Along with the site refresh, I am also rolling out two new service options that many clients have been asking for.

Perfect for smaller repairs, adjustments, and simple upgrades around the home that do not require a full custom project.

Previous Client Care Package
A one time care service for past clients who want their previously installed Hulse Design Co. projects tuned up and refreshed. This covers touchups, adjustments, and small repairs to keep your built ins, mantels, mudroom pieces, and trim work looking and functioning like new.

- Day 1 - Intro / Goal for the Month

Hey, I’m Ryan—woodworker, finish carpenter, and the guy behind Hulse Design Co. Most days, you’ll find me in the shop covered in sawdust, with a pencil behind my hair, and my Puck by my side.

This month, I’m taking time to step back into the maker community—sharing more of the process, the wins, the messes, and the meaning behind what I build. My goals for May?
•Finish a custom library install I’ve been dreaming about.
•Stay consistent with sharing what’s happening in the shop
•And yeah… finally clean the shop.

Here’s to building with purpose, passion, and maybe a little less clutter.

5 years ago vs. Today.

Same workbench. Different workshop.
A little more hair, a little more gray—but a whole lot more wisdom.

When I first dove into this full-time, I had no clue where the road would take me. Just a set of tools, a ton of passion, and a dream to build something—literally and figuratively.

In these past five years, I’ve learned:
- Mistakes aren’t failures—they’re how you sharpen your craft.
- Planning and support are the backbone of any small business.
-It is possible to make a living doing what you love.
- Your work should support your life, not swallow it.

I’m happier now than I’ve ever been. And I owe it to the sawdust, the late nights, the setbacks, the supporters, and every project that shaped me along the way.

Here’s to staying true, building better, and loving the process.

Happy Easter to all you peeps out there!

This sign was one of the first things I made—back when I was just figuring out what my purpose was in the HDC workshop. I don’t make signs anymore, but this piece reminds me of those humble beginnings.

Now, I build custom libraries, built-ins, cabinetry, and trim work that bring real character to homes. But the lesson stays the same: keep hopping forward, and always welcome the peeps who support your dream.

Grateful for where it started—and even more excited for where it’s going.
