Continuing Education Extension Information from the NC Licensing Board for General Contractors:
By now all of you are aware of the impacts Hurricane Helene has had on North Carolina, specifically in western North Carolina. 27 counties in western North Carolina have been declared a major disaster area, and there is still significant damage to critical infrastructure, including roads, power, water/sewer, and internet services. At its regular meeting on October 16, 2024, the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors ( "Board") voted to waive the requirements under rules 21 NCAC 12B .0202, .0205, .0302 and .0303 and grant an extension of time for the 2024 continuing education requirements. The Board carefully considered the impacts this disaster event has had across the state and determined the extension should be applicable throughout the entire state.
The extension of time granted for continuing education requirements for 2024 will extend the deadlines 90 days from the end date of the 2024 Continuing education year, which is November 30, 2024.
In allowing the extension of time, the Board has approved the following:
The Expiration and Renewal of Provider Approval for 2024 will expire on March 1, 2025.
Continuing education providers will be allowed to offer, conduct, or allow a student to complete any continuing education course between December 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024, inclusive.
All Board-approved continuing education elective courses for the 2024 year shall be granted extension until March 1, 2025.
The Board's approval to offer the Mandatory Course will not expire and will continue to be allowed to be taught through December 31, 2024.
The Board's decision to grant this extension does not waive, extend, or grant any additional rules other than those described. This extension does not waive, extend, or grant any exceptions to the renewal and late fees.
