🍃 Aeration and seeding season is right around the corner!
If you’re wondering whether your lawn is ready for aeration and seeding, you’re not alone! We’re answering some of the most commonly asked questions we hear about fall aeration and seeding - why it matters, when you do it, and how to prepare your lawn.
1.) To prepare your lawn, mow on a slightly shorter setting (2 inches) a day or two before. Rake out any dead material and remove any debris. Soak the ground the night before so the machine can pull good plugs out of the dirt. Have a plan to water afterwards.
2.) Definitely plan to aerate and seed fescue lawns every year! Aeration helps relieve soil compaction to allow deeper roots and nutrients to pe*****te into soil so plants can absorb them. Seeding is necessary for any areas of Fescue lawns that may have thinned out due to summer stresses.
3.) Seeding fescue lawns in the Fall allows for young plants to establish roots during cooler months going into the winter. In the Spring the young Fescue will mature as temperatures warm and develop deeper roots during cooler season to help survive summer stress. Spring seeding does not give Fescue enough time to mature and develop, and also will interfere with w**d control/pre-emergent timing.
