We’re always happy when our team members have the opportunity to spend time together outside of the workday.

Plant Manager Sean Vandyke recently hosted a picnic at Frank Liske Park for employees and their families from our Concord and Salisbury, NC plants. Drivers and production staff enjoyed a beautiful Carolina day with good food, fellowship, and activities around the park.

Thank you, Sean, for organizing the picnic and for all you do to strengthen camaraderie and morale across both plants. We’re grateful for the work our Concord and Salisbury employees put in every day and the way they support one another.

A lot of work goes into every concrete mix, from selecting the right ingredients to the careful testing needed to understand how it will perform.

Here is a look behind the scenes at one of our Concrete Supply Co. labs, where our team recently prepared 11 mixes, 188 cylinders, and 21 shrinkage beams for seven of the mixes. The results will give us real data to evaluate each mix and continue supporting consistent concrete quality.

On the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we pause to honor those who lost their lives, the first responders and service members who answered the call to serve, and the families and communities forever affected by that day.

Today, we remember.

This Labor Day, we are taking a moment to recognize the people behind every delivery, every early start, every well-maintained truck, and every project we are proud to help support.

The work our teams do is demanding, often beginning long before most people see the day get underway. It calls for experience, care, patience, and a real sense of responsibility to one another, our customers, and the communities we serve.

To our drivers, plant teams, dispatchers, mechanics, quality control professionals, office and administrative teams, and everyone across CSC and our subsidiaries: thank you for the work you do and the pride you bring to it. We are grateful to have you on our team.

We hope you and your families have a safe and joyful Labor Day!

Hydration begins as soon as water comes into contact with the cementitious materials in concrete. Following placement and finishing, this chemical process continues as the concrete hardens and progressively develops strength.

Curing encompasses the practices used to maintain appropriate moisture and temperature conditions during this ongoing hydration process. Depending on the project requirements, curing may involve providing additional moisture, preventing excessive moisture loss, controlling temperature, or a combination of these measures. The curing method and duration should be established in accordance with the project specifications and applicable standards.

While placement and finishing typically receive significant attention during concrete construction, the period immediately following placement is equally important to the long-term performance of the concrete. Effective curing begins with planning. Establishing the appropriate responsibilities, materials, methods, and curing duration in advance allows the project team to implement the required measures consistently and in accordance with the project requirements.

Congratulations to Marvin Purcell on recently celebrating 30 years with Concrete Supply Co.!

Marvin is a mixer driver and backup batcher at our Aberdeen, NC plant. When he’s not driving, you may see him in the passenger side of a mixer riding along with a newly hired driver as a driver coach. Marvin is highly dependable and demonstrates a consistent positive attitude and has an excellent safety record - 39 years of safe driving! Within his local community, he has also faithfully served as a pastor for 25 years.

Thank you, Marvin, for the care and experience you’ve brought to your work over the past 30 years. We’re glad to celebrate this milestone with you!

Every project has a purpose beyond the structure itself.

A new home, business, road, school, or community space can change how people live, work, and connect. We want to hear about the projects taking shape across the Carolinas.

What are you building right now, or what project in your community are you most excited to see completed? Share it in the comments.

There is something special about seeing a familiar truck through a child’s eyes, especially when they have the chance to climb aboard, explore, and meet the people who operate it.

On August 15, Raleigh Assistant Operations Manager Logan Anglin and Mixer Driver Kevin Brown from our Cary plant joined families at Little Rey’s Touch-A-Truck at Raleigh Iron Works. They brought along one of our mixer trucks and a hauler truck, giving children an up-close look at two of the vehicles they may see working throughout their community.

Thank you to Logan and Kevin for spending the morning with local families, answering plenty of questions, and helping make the experience a memorable one for Raleigh’s youngest truck enthusiasts.
