Old Town Kitchen & Cocktails / Rock Hill, SC

Welcome to Old Town Kitchen & Cocktails , a captivating project in a Historic Landmark building. Located near Downtown Rock Hill, this establishment pays homage to its surroundings while offering a unique and inviting atmosphere. A key requirement was to preserve and showcase the existing brickwork, ensuring its historical significance remained unobscured.

Stepping inside, guests are greeted by a vibrant space that reflects the spirit of the community. The design incorporates elements that cater to both sports enthusiasts and academics. Adjacent to the restaurant, a large co****le community league provides entertainment, while the nearby sports and events center hosts minor athletics. The outdoor courtyard, inspired by universities from the 1930s and 1940s, serves as a lush backdrop, creating a collegiate atmosphere with abundant greenery.

Large-scale graphics and paintings adorn the walls, reminiscent of pennants and the aesthetics of a library. The side patio offers a delightful retreat, while the choice of upholstery evokes the nostalgia of an old rugby player's uniform. As the sister establishment of Goodyear House, Old Town Kitchen & Cocktails shares the same ownership, ensuring a commitment to quality and excellence.

Upon entering, patrons are greeted by a beautiful iron gate, setting the tone for an enchanting dining experience. Catenary string lights cast a warm glow, illuminating the space. As daylight fades, low lights create a cozy ambiance despite the soaring 20-foot-tall ceilings. "Library lights" sconces add a touch of elegance and sophistication, completing the captivating design of Old Town Kitchen & Cocktails.

Petty Thieves Brewing/Charlotte, NC. Winner of Charlotte Magazine's Best Brewery Interior.

is a spacious 4,960 square feet destination on Graham Street. The space is adorned with hidden gems and curiosities, evoking a sense of wonder and discovery. Drawing inspiration from the owners’ extensive collection of found objects, the design effortlessly integrates these cool and eclectic pieces. One noteworthy element is a hidden room, reachable via a Twin Peaks-esque corridor and a concealed bookcase. This secret space is crafted to evoke the feeling of being inside a b**r barrel, making it a unique attraction for b**r lovers.

Much of the space was built by the owners, showcasing their woodworking talents. Taxidermy elements create a unique hunting lodge ambiance, while the presence of bank teller lamps and typewriters infuse a nostalgic charm. A stage area and game room offer entertainment options for patrons, further enhancing the lively atmosphere. The interior design embraces a whimsical circus tent aesthetic, complemented by the grandeur of baroque-ish architecture and stained glass windows that bathe the space in a vibrant kaleidoscope of colors. In fact, it has been aptly dubbed the “church for b**r.”

Lola's Cocina is Now Open in South Huntsville, Alabama!

We are beyond excited to announce that Lola’s Cocina is officially open, marking our first restaurant concept in Alabama! Named in honor of owner Phil Sandoval’s mother, Lola, this vibrant new Mexican restaurant brings a fresh, welcoming energy to South Huntsville.

From the architectural design to the full brand identity, our team at Cluck had a blast bringing every detail of this project to life. We designed the complete interior upfit—creating a dynamic 3,500-square-foot space featuring a flexible seating flow across the bar, cozy booths, and a 500-square-foot outdoor patio centered around a shady patio tree. Alongside the physical architecture, we developed Lola’s entire visual identity, including the custom logo, typography, color palette, and custom signage.

Stop by to explore the space, relax on the patio, and grab a delicious meal!

The Joinery Phase 2 Nominated for Charlotte Business Journal's Heavy Hitters Award

Join us in celebrating the super cool news that one of our biggest projects, The Joinery Phase 2 in Optimist Park, is nominated for a Charlotte Business Journal Heavy Hitters award in the Top Mixed-Use Development category. The awards will be announced at a dinner on October 29, and we're looking forward to celebrating our hard work and the other notable projects in Charlotte.

For The Joinery Phase 2, Cluck took a significant amount of care to make this a truly kick ass project with a focus on sustainability. Most notably, the use of cross-laminated timber (CLT) promised a solution that is better than steel, with engineered wood that looks good, sequesters carbon, and is installed in a shorter time. While the structural system came at a slight premium, it also allowed us to reduce the overall height and volume of the building by five feet (one foot per upper five floors), which resulted in construction cost savings for the client.

The walkable, small-scale retail on the ground floor evokes major metropolitan vibes, as if every twenty feet there is something new to look at. We wanted this project to feel like all the best parts of New York, Paris, Copenhagen, and more.

Urban Design consultant Gehl focused on bringing nature to the forefront with the incorporation of different types of flora and fauna. With these details, as well as electric car shares, solar panels, and thoughtful amenities, The Joinery Phase 2 offers a modern living experience that shows that better is not always more expensive. The property is owned by Space Craft.

Suffolk Punch - South Park, Charlotte, NC

Suffolk Punch’s second location expands on a successful brand’s legacy, adapting to a clientele that may be shifting from South End to SouthPark Mall. Anchoring the West Plaza of the popular mall, this revitalized space, once occupied by a national pizza restaurant, cleverly integrates and enhances existing entryways.

The outdoor pavilion, illuminated by skylights, harnesses natural light, ensuring a warm and bright atmosphere during the daytime. We utilized a pre-engineered metal building system for a faster and more cost-effective construction. However, through careful selection of components and the incorporation of Cluck’s unique details and specifications, the final design transcends the typical aesthetic of a pre-engineered metal building.

This venue offers entertainment for all ages, featuring an enhanced playground, outdoor seating, and a stage in its family-friendly outside area where parents can relax with a b**r. Inside, guests can choose from two exterior bars and a central bar with a kitchen and pizza oven. The venue provides diverse dining experiences throughout the day with staggered openings of different concepts, including a unique coffee offering.

Open Tap / Charlotte, NC. Winner of the 2024 AIA Charlotte Citation Award.

OpenTap is a fusion of historic charm and contemporary construction techniques. Inspired by the beauty of the region’s log cabins, we sought to create a modern space that pays homage to its rich heritage. Through innovative design choices and a commitment to eco-friendly practices, OpenTap stands as a testament to the blend of tradition and progress.

One of the standout features of OpenTap is the innovative use of Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) wood panels, the first food and beverage concept to do so in the region. These exposed panels not only provide structural support but also serve as a beautiful finished surface. This sustainable approach adds a unique aesthetic and reduces the environmental impact of the building by helping to keep carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.

There are several focal points of OpenTap: “The Front Lawn” is a carefully designed outdoor space that invites patrons to revel in the joys of outdoor entertainment; “The Treehouse” mezzanine rises up through the heart of the gathering space, and a tree constructed of 4x4 cedar posts creates a unique and natural ambiance; “The Port” is a thoughtfully designed area dedicated to food truck parking.

OpenTap is more than just a gathering place; it’s an homage to the past and an inspiration for the future. With its historic inspiration, pioneering CLT construction, and captivating outdoor areas, OpenTap promises to be a destination where patrons can create lasting memories while enjoying the best of both worlds—old and new.

Urban District Market / Charlotte, NC. Winner of the 2023 Urban Design Award.

“Urban District Market” revitalizes two bowstring trussed masonry buildings into a dynamic 20,000 sq ft cultural and culinary hub. This vibrant venue caters to local and global communities, offering family-friendly facilities, food stalls with diverse offerings, and endless outdoor activities. The food stalls, supermarket, and brewery/ distillery share resources while maintaining individuality. From the groundbreaking “LaBARatory” to “Taco Adventure Company (TA Co.),” a range of global cuisines thrives. This market weaves community, flavors, and design into urban splendor, a must-visit destination along Charlotte’s Cross-Charlotte Trail.

Because Cluck loves to be the mirror to their clients, we were especially excited to work with the owners to turn their very own wedding venue into the multi-stall food hall that they envisioned. Finally, a newly constructed pavilion bridge crosses over the XCLT Trail allows pedestrians to stroll between buildings and highlights the need for connection.
