Why is my circuit breaker stuck in the middle?
If you've ever gone to your electrical panel and noticed a breaker sitting somewhere between ON and OFF, there's a good chance it has tripped.
So what does that mean?
Your circuit breaker is designed to protect your home. When too much electrical current flows through a circuit, the breaker can trip and shut off the power to help prevent the wires from overheating and potentially causing a fire.
A breaker can trip for several reasons, including:
• Too many lights or appliances drawing power from the same circuit
• A faulty appliance causing an electrical problem
• A short circuit caused by an unintended path for electricity
• Loose, damaged, or frayed wiring
• Another issue within the electrical system
One important thing to remember: A breaker tripping is a safety feature doing its job. But if the same breaker keeps tripping, don't make a habit of simply resetting it.
Repeated trips are a sign that something may need to be checked.
Keep resetting it ≠ fixing the problem.
