We’ve seen it over and over again, once a backyard is fully upgraded, the way people use their home changes completely. Evening routines become more about being outside, whether that’s cooking in a modern outdoor kitchen, sitting around fire features, or just spending time by the pool as the sun goes down.

The goal with a space like this is to combine comfort and style in a way that actually feels usable day to day. Clean architectural lines, warm lighting, desert-inspired landscaping, and open gathering areas all work together so the backyard doesn’t feel like separate features, it feels like one complete environment.

At that point it stops being just a renovation and starts becoming a lifestyle shift. If you want to see what a backyard transformation like this would cost for your home, you can check it here: https://vist.ly/55wtn

The pool industry has operated the same way for a long time, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only way to do it. Most homeowners are used to large upfront payments, bundled pricing, and quotes that don’t clearly show where the money is going. That structure often creates confusion more than clarity.

There are other ways to build. A more transparent system focuses on separating project management from actual construction costs, giving homeowners visibility into each phase instead of locking everything into one inflated number. It also changes how payments are handled, moving away from large deposits and toward progress-based work.

The goal isn’t to complicate things, it’s to make them more understandable and fair. Custom pools don’t have to feel unpredictable or overpriced when the process is structured differently. One of the biggest concerns we hear from homeowners is pricing changing mid-project. In the past, many people have experienced starting a build with one expected budget, only to see costs increase along the way or receive a large final bill they didn’t plan for. That uncertainty is what makes a lot of pool projects stressful.

In this case, the focus was on delivering quality materials and a high level of finish from the beginning, without the feeling that upgrades or “extras” would suddenly appear later as hidden costs. When the standards are set upfront and the scope is clearly defined, homeowners can feel more confident that what they see in the plan is what they’re actually getting in the final build.

A well-run project shouldn’t feel like a guessing game. It should feel consistent from design through completion, with quality and expectations aligned the entire way.

Most homeowners assume the price they get for a custom pool reflects the actual cost of labor and materials, but that’s rarely the full picture. In many traditional builds, contractor markups are built into every phase of the project, and those layers can add anywhere from 20 to 40 percent on top of real construction costs.

The challenge is that those costs are usually bundled together, so homeowners don’t get a clear breakdown of what things actually cost versus what’s being added along the way. That lack of visibility is where confusion and overspending tend to happen, especially on larger backyard projects.

There are different ways to approach pool construction that focus on separating real trade costs from management and coordination. When pricing is more transparent, homeowners can make decisions with more clarity instead of guesswork. On this project we added a mix of features that change how the pool looks and feels without dramatically increasing the cost. There’s a Baja shelf for shallow lounging, a tanning deck designed to feel like it’s floating on the water, and a series of stepping pads that create a clean path across the pool while adding a visual focal point.

A lot of builders will price features like this at a premium simply because they stand out. The reality is, when they’re planned correctly during the design phase, they don’t add nearly as much cost as people expect. It’s more about thoughtful layout and ex*****on than expensive materials or complicated construction.

These are the kinds of details that make a pool feel custom without pushing the budget out of range. When you understand where to invest and where you don’t need to, you can get a much higher-end look without overspending.

We worked with Justin on a backyard paver project where the main focus was clean ex*****on and staying aligned with his original design. From the beginning, the expectation was simple, follow the plan closely, stay responsive, and keep the work moving without unnecessary delays.

The crew stayed consistent on site and made sure the layout matched what was agreed on before installation started. With paver work, small adjustments can change the final look a lot, so communication and attention to detail matter just as much as the installation itself.

In the end, the project came together quickly and stayed true to the original design intent, which is usually what homeowners want most when they already know what they’re looking for. We’ve worked with a lot of homeowners over the years, and sometimes the decision to move forward comes down to trust more than anything else. In this case, the homeowner had already built multiple pools before and had experience working with different companies, so they knew exactly what to look for when starting another project.

From our first meeting, the focus was on clear communication, honesty, and making the process feel simple instead of overwhelming. Throughout the build, the goal was to deliver exactly what was promised without surprises or confusion along the way. That kind of consistency is what makes a project feel smooth from start to finish.

Hearing feedback like this reinforces why we approach projects the way we do. When the process is straightforward and expectations are aligned early, the end result speaks for itself.

They compared 5 to 6 of the largest pool companies in Arizona before choosing BWYP.

Why did they choose us?

Transparent pricing, a custom design that fit their backyard, and an online estimator that helped them understand the cost before moving forward.

According to the homeowner, BWYP came in approximately $75,000 to $100,000 less than other bids.

The pool industry hasn’t really changed in decades. Most homeowners still get locked into bundled contracts, hidden markups, and large upfront payments where it’s difficult to see what anything actually costs. That’s where most of the confusion and overpaying starts.

Our approach is built around transparency. Instead of inflating pricing across phases, we separate project management from construction. Homeowners pay subcontractors directly as work is completed, and we handle permits, scheduling, and coordination for a flat fee. It keeps the process visible and more aligned with how the work is actually happening on site.

The goal is simple. Make custom pool construction more straightforward, more transparent, and easier to trust without lowering the quality of the final product. If you want to see what your project would look like under this system, you can check it here: https://vist.ly/54qv5

This project actually started with an existing pool, but once we walked the property and understood the homeowner’s vision, it was clear the best move was to start over. Instead of trying to work around outdated design and layout limitations, we removed the original pool and spa to create something that made more sense for how the space would actually be used.

From there, we worked closely with the homeowner to take their ideas and turn them into a fully planned layout. The new design includes a completely rebuilt pool and a sunken pergola area that ties into the rest of the yard. Starting fresh gave us the flexibility to get the elevations, flow, and functionality right from the beginning instead of forcing compromises.

A lot of times people assume keeping an old pool will save money, but in many cases it limits what you can build and how the yard comes together. When the goal is a complete transformation, rebuilding can actually be the better long term decision.
