Should Shingles Overhang the Drip Edge?
Overhanging shingles over the drip edge about a half inch can help with surface tension. Plan out how you will lay your shingles beforehand, here’s how we recommend you approach your installation.

Installing Roof Shingles in 11 Steps:
To start installing shingles, line up aluminum drip edge flush with the edge of the roof and make a pencil line at the top on each end of the house.
Using the chalk line, snap a line between the two marks to get a straight edge.
Pull the drip edge down about a half-inch from that line to create a gap between the drip edge and the fascia board.
Nail the drip edge in place using 1¼-inch galvanized roofing nails and a hammer.
Repeat steps for gabled ends, installing the drip edge up the roof along the gable.
Lay out 30-lb. asphalt roofing felt paper and nail it in place using 1¼-inch galvanized roofing nails.
To lay out the design for the shingles, begin at the bottom of the roof and place a tape measure ½ inch from the edge of the roof to ensure the shingles overhang the drip edge.
Mark 12 inches up on the roof for the first course of shingles, then mark every 5 inches all the way up the roof to set your reveal. Do this on both sides of the roof.
Using the chalk line, snap a straight line on each 5-inch increment.
Use the chalk line to snap a straight line vertically every 6 inches.
Install a starter course by cutting off the three tabs on a shingle, leaving only the top tar section.

What is hidden damage? And why should i be worried 🏡‼️

Broken or Missing Shingles
While this may be a bit more visible, that’s not always the case. Understandable, roof shingles are the first line of defense against severe weather conditions such as rain, wind, heat, and fire. Designed to provide durable, overlapping protection, shingles can become cracked, frayed, or curled over time, leading to hidden roof damage. Shingles can also still remain in place but lift during severe weather, and thus, limiting their functionality. The appearance of broken or missing shingles could lead to:

Water damage
Interior leaks (or signs of leakage)
Mold, mildew, or fungus growth
Visible Leaks
Even if you aren’t able to spot missing or broken shingles, the presence of wet floors, drips, or moist, discolored spots on your ceiling indicate that you have a leak in your roof. Unfortunately, if you see one leak, then chances are there are others. One important thing to remember: water damage doesn’t always appear at the source of the leak. Water will often follow gravity down trusses or other internal structures, and often times, show up far away from the actual compromised area of your roof. This is why, in order to avoid further water damage to the interior structure of your home, and potentially more expensive repair costs, you should contact a roofing company immediately.

High Heat and strong to severe storms are in the forecast for tomorrow(Saturday).

Temps are expected to be in the 90s for much of Illinois tomorrow. With dew points in the mid 70s, heat index values are expected to reach 95-105 degrees, highest in the western half.

During the afternoon/evening we expected isolated to scattered thunderstorms to develop in northern parts of Illinois and move south. A few of these could be strong-severe with damaging winds, hail and torrential downpours the main threats.

More smokey skies are likely along with reduced air quality at times for sensitive groups. High heat is likely Sunday too with 100-108° heat index values in southern IL.

FIND OUT WHY‼️🏚🏡Your Contractor Should Be Present During Your Insurance Adjuster Inspection 🧐

🏚🏡Your Contractor Should Be Present During Your Insurance Adjuster Inspection 🧐

It’s fair to say that the structural integrity of your home’s roof is, quite literally, a disaster. Without a sound roof, your home is exposed to the elements, and water damage can quickly create havoc throughout your property. If your roof has been compromised, then the situation is close to an emergency – so you’re going to want to ensure the repair process is as smooth and efficient as it can possibly be.

After identifying the roof damage, most homeowners will immediately turn to their insurance company for assistance. If you ever find yourself in this situation, you will likely expect – as thousands of other homeowners have before you – that you can just make a call to your insurer, then sit back and wait for the repair process to fall into place.

#Alert: Beginning August 2nd, the National Weather Service will issue emergency notifications to cell phone devices for anything considered “destructive”. For example — instead of your phone alerting you for only a tornado warning, it may now alert you for very dangerous winds (80mph+) or large hail(2.75”+).

Sometimes it takes just one good storm to topple what was once a sturdy tree in your yard. And, once the storm passes, you may be wondering whether your homeowners insurance will help pay for the cost of removing the branches or repairing damage if the tree fell on your home.

Whether your homeowners insurance policy includes coverage for fallen trees typically depends on a number of factors, such as what caused the tree to fall and what kind of damage resulted. Here are answers to some frequently asked questions about trees and insurance

Q: DOES HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE COVER DAMAGE CAUSED BY FALLEN TREES ON MY PROPERTY?
A: The answer to this question is, "It depends." A homeowners insurance policy typically protects your home and other structures, such as a fence or shed, against specific causes of loss, known as perils. Covered perils typically include damage caused by wind. So, the situation that caused the tree to fall is important. If the tree was otherwise healthy and damaged your home because of wind, a typical homeowners insurance policy may help pay to repair damage to your home or other structure on your property, the Insurance Information Institute (III) says.

However, homeowners insurance usually won't cover loss or damage caused by negligence or a maintenance-related issue. So, if the tree was rotting and ready to fall down before the storm, homeowners insurance likely would not cover the damage the tree caused to your home.

Q: WHAT IF THE TREE DOESN'T DAMAGE ANYTHING?
A: If a tree falls down and causes no structural damage, meaning your house doesn't need any repairs, your homeowners insurance policy typically will not cover tree debris removal, according to the III. However, sometimes insurance companies may help cover the cost of removal if the fallen tree becomes an obstacle for drivers like blocking a driveway.

Q: WHAT HAPPENS IF THE TREE WAS ON MY NEIGHBOR'S PROPERTY?
A: If your home is damaged by your neighbor's tree, homeowners insurance may help pay to repair the damage to your house (or other structure, if the tree falls on your fence, for example).

🛑Hidden Damage😳Is costing Us “HARD WORKING AMERICANS”Thousands of Dollars💵

🛑Hidden Damage😳Is costing Us “HARD WORKING AMERICANS”Thousands of Dollars💵

It depends on what caused your roof problems

A typical all-perils homeowners insurance policy does cover your roof and the cost of replacing it if it gets damaged. That's the good news. But usually, you're covered only if the damage or destruction results from a sudden accident or act of nature. Problems that ensue from general wear and tear or from a roof that has exceeded its intended life span are not eligible for reimbursement because they fall under the general maintenance responsibility of the homeowner.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
Most homeowners insurance policies cover roof replacement if the damage is the result of an act of nature or sudden accidental event.
Most homeowners insurance policies won't pay to replace or repair a roof that's gradually deteriorating due to wear-and-tear or neglect.
Roofs that are over 20 years old often have limited coverage, if any.
To ensure approval of your claim, keep records of repairs, before-and-after photos, and reports from inspections. Notify your insurance company promptly when the damage occurs

❌🤫🛑Kinds of Hidden Damage You Should Have Your Roof Checked For🔥💯

Planning the budget is one of the most crucial stages of your roofing project. However, your contractor and materials aren’t the only things you should consider during this phase. Sometimes, roofers discover hidden problems as they tear off the old materials. You have to take note of these potential issues when creating a budget for your project.

Why Is a Roof Tear-Off a Better Option?
When the time comes that you need a roof replacement, you have two options. You can either go for a complete tear-off or an overlay. In a tear-off, your roofer removes the old material completely and also addresses underlying problems in the process. In an overlay, your contractor simply installs new shingles over the old ones.

A reputable contractor would recommend a tear-off because this allows them to fix underlying issues that can lead to early roofing failure. This option offers longer-lasting results. Also, multiple layers of shingles can put a strain on your home’s structure. Choosing a tear-off means prolonging the lifespan of your roof and minimizing the risk of damage down the line.

Another benefit of a tear-off is a more appealing roof. With an overlay, roofs don’t always look new while in a tear-off, shingles look flatter and brand new. If you’re thinking about selling your home in the future, you can also benefit from a roof tear-off. This project can give you up to a 105% return on your investment. On the flip side, an overlay can reduce your curb appeal and drive away potential buyers.

🏚❌🔥WHAT ARE THE ELEMENTS OF THE CERTAINTEED INTEGRITY ROOF SYSTEM®?

🤫🏚🔥 WHAT ARE THE ELEMENTS OF THE CERTAINTEED INTEGRITY ROOF SYSTEM®?

A superior roof is stronger than the sum of its parts. A quality roofing system involves the underlayments, shingles, accessory products, and ventilation all working together. Day after day, year after year. At CertainTeed, we call that the Integrity Roof System®. The Integrity Roof System is designed to provide optimum performance -- no matter how bad the weather conditions are.

1. CertainTeed Shingles

CertainTeed’s shingle options are available from your trusted roofing contractor in Indianapolis Indiana, IMPERIAL CONSTRUCTION represent their top of the line options. A heavy fiberglass material, it doesn’t tear easily and lasts a long time. When it comes to ease-of-installation without compromising durability, Landmark™ Shingles are your best bet. Lastly, the Landmark PRO features the granulated Max Def range of colors that offer depth and vibrancy in the looks department.

2. Hip & Ridge Accessory Shingles

Rounding out the hips and ridges of your roof, these accessory shingles come in colors that will match your shingle choice. Not only do they serve to cap off your roof’s look, they also protect the vulnerable points of your roofing from water infiltration.

3. Ridge Vent

While many roofs are designed to keep wind out, some ventilation is necessary to ensure that indoor temperatures stay optimal. The ridge vent on the Integrity Roof System fits snuggly under the top-most accessory shingles. It’s designed to function without risking any water and other undesirable things getting into your home.

4. Roofers’ Select™ or Diamond Deck™

This high-performance underlayment forms a water-resistant barrier over the roof deck. It ensures that any water that might get past the initial line of shingles won’t pe*****te into your home’s interior. It fits over the vulnerable wooden roof support.

5. WinterGuard™

Supporting Roofers’ Select or Diamond Deck, WinterGuard is installed near the roof’s edge. It’s designed to protect specifically against leaks caused by wind-driven rain or even ice dams during winter.

6. Starter Shingles

The last component of the Integrity Roof System, Starter Shingles specifically stay at the roof’s edge. They provide an extra barrier of protection and support the shingles installed above it. As one of the roofers in St. Louis, MO, we know to install them carefully, as they round out the whole system.
