EVERY “50-YEAR ROOF WARRANTY” IS THE SAME ⚠️
Homeowners hear the words “50-year warranty” all the time. Before signing a roofing contract, ask one important question:
“What is the exact name of the Owens Corning warranty I will receive?”
Any contractor can install Owens Corning Duration® shingles with the standard Limited Lifetime manufacturer’s warranty. However, that standard warranty generally includes a 10-year TRU PROtection® non-prorated period for qualifying manufacturing defects. After that initial period, coverage becomes prorated according to the warranty’s terms.
That is not the same as an Owens Corning enhanced 50-year roofing-system warranty.
DeSonie Roofing & Exterior is an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor. This designation allows us to offer qualifying homeowners enhanced Owens Corning warranty options that contractors outside the Owens Corning Preferred Contractor Network cannot provide.
Depending on the qualifying roofing system and warranty selected, enhanced coverage may include:

✅ Qualifying Owens Corning roofing-system materials
✅ Labor associated with covered manufacturing defects
✅ Owens Corning-backed workmanship protection with an eligible warranty upgrade
✅ An official registered Owens Corning warranty certificate
These enhanced warranties require more than simply installing Owens Corning shingles.
The contractor must hold the required Owens Corning designation, install the required qualifying roofing-system components, follow Owens Corning’s installation requirements, and properly register the warranty.
That is why comparing roofing estimates based only on the final price can be misleading.
One contractor’s roof may include:
• A complete qualifying Owens Corning roofing system
• Premium synthetic underlayment
• Manufactured starter shingles—not cut three-tab shingles
• Manufactured hip-and-ridge shingles—not three-tab shingles
• High-quality pipe flashings
• Ice-and-water barrier at eaves, valleys, roof-to-wall areas, and roof penetrations
• Additional ice-and-water protection where roof conditions require it
• Proper ventilation and installation procedures
• Enhanced manufacturer-backed warranty options
Another estimate may include the same brand of field shingles but use different or lower-cost accessories, fewer protective components, and only the standard shingle warranty.
Those are not necessarily identical roofing systems—and they should not be compared as if they are.
Before accepting any “50-year warranty,” ask the contractor to provide the following in writing:
What is the exact name of the warranty?
Is it issued by Owens Corning or only by the contractor?
How long does the coverage remain non-prorated?
Are both materials and labor covered?
Is contractor workmanship covered by Owens Corning?
Which qualifying Owens Corning components are being installed?
Will you receive an official registered warranty certificate?
