Part of the fun of choosing finishes for a custom home is finding a place for something a little unexpected.

In the Sylvan, that includes a powder room wrapped in bird-patterned wallpaper. The other bathrooms take a quieter approach, with tile color and pattern giving each its own character while warm wood and metal finishes keep the spaces connected.

Sometimes the pattern you love isn't something you want throughout the whole house. Giving it a place in a smaller room lets you enjoy it without setting the direction for every other space. That's part of the freedom in choosing finishes for a custom home.

Another update from this custom home taking shape in Camas.

We are excited to take a closer look at the indoor-outdoor pool and the three 20-foot pocketing doors that connect it to the rest of the home. The doors can open completely, creating an easy transition into the surrounding living spaces.

It’s a thoughtful way to make the pool feel like part of the home year-round, not just a seasonal feature.

The Camtana was created for clients who wanted to bring a little of Montana with them to Camas. Warm wood, stone, and natural finishes gave the home its character, but the story behind the build is what makes this one especially memorable.

Much of the process happened from a distance during the pandemic. When Buck and Sherry finally saw the home in person, it was exactly as they had been picturing all along.

A w**e collection can become part of a home in a lot of different ways.

In The Newcomer, it takes center stage with a 192-bottle, temperature-controlled w**e wall. In other Affinity homes, we've tucked collections into dedicated w**e rooms, incorporated them into dining spaces, or made them part of the architecture itself.

None needed the same solution because the homes, and the people we designed them for, weren't the same.

"Custom" can mean a lot of things in homebuilding, which is why we think the details matter.

For us, it means we never build the same home twice. Materials are selected specifically for the home, millwork is created to fit the space, and details like hand-applied plaster or carefully chosen stone bring a level of craftsmanship that doesn't come from a predetermined package.

But some of the best examples of custom design aren't necessarily the things you notice first. They're the decisions made throughout the process, from taking advantage of the property and its views to thinking through how each space connects to the next.

You may not notice every one of those decisions when you walk through the door, but together, they're what make the home unlike any other we've built.

From the beginning, our clients wanted the home to feel connected to the landscape around it. Bringing in natural light and capturing the views became an important part of that vision, which led to expansive glass throughout the home and pocketing doors that open to more than 1,500 sq ft of outdoor living space.

There are certain spaces in a home you start looking forward to a little more this time of year.

The fireplace gets turned on again, movie nights sound a little better, and a quiet corner with a good book suddenly has your attention.

These may feel like small things, but they're often the spaces that make a home feel especially good to live in. And when they're considered from the beginning, they're there waiting for you whenever the season gives you a reason to use them.

We may not be ready to say goodbye to the warmer days just yet, but home is making a pretty good case for fall.
