WHAT’S UNDER YOUR PAVERS MATTERS!
A problem we see far more often than we should is pavers that are sinking, shifting, or becoming uneven because the proper preparation wasn’t done underneath them.
At Florida Roots Landscaping, we believe a quality paver installation starts long before the first paver is laid. We take the necessary steps to properly excavate, prepare, and compact the foundation so your new driveway, patio, or walkway is built to last.
For a typical paver walkway or patio, excavation may be approximately 8–10 inches below the finished surface, allowing room for the proper compacted base, bedding material, and pavers.
For a paver driveway, excavation may reach approximately 12–14 inches, depending on soil conditions, drainage, vehicle loads, and the project requirements. A properly prepared and compacted aggregate base—using materials such as crushed concrete or limestone—is critical to supporting the weight above it.
Simply laying pavers over a thin layer of material may look good when the job is finished, but problems can begin showing up later as the ground settles and a landscaping company that will not return your phone calls.
