🚨 ALAMANCE COUNTY DROUGHT ALERT 🚨
As you’ve probably noticed, our lawns are taking a beating. Most of our area is officially under an Extreme Drought, and our cool-season Tall Fescue lawns are feeling the heat. If your yard is turning brown, it isn’t necessarily dead, it has gone into Drought-Stress Dormancy. This is a defense mechanism where the grass shuts down to protect its root system until rain returns. Because the turf is completely out of water pressure, it becomes incredibly brittle and fragile.
But don’t worry! We’re here to help. As a professional lawn care team, we have to adapt how we treat your property during this dry spell. We are currently applying structural lime treatments to keep your soil chemistry balanced for the upcoming fall. However, because the grass is so fragile, even the lightest equipment can leave temporary “tire tracks” or wheel marks on dormant lawns.
Our Drought Action Plan:
➡️ Running Light: We are intentionally minimizing the weight on our commercial machines to reduce physical stress on your turf.
➡️No Zero-Turns: Our technicians are executing wide, gentle turns, no sharp pivoting, to protect brittle grass crowns from ripping.
➡️Timing it Right: We are prioritizing operations during the coolest parts of the morning when the turf is least stressed.
💦How you can help your lawn💦
If you have an irrigation system or a sprinkler, now is the time to use it. A deep watering of ½ inch to ¾ inch early in the morning will give your fescue the strength it needs to handle the heat and help activate our soil treatments.
We are working hard to keep your landscape healthy through this brutal Piedmont summer. Thank you all for your trust and understanding! Have questions about your lawn’s health? Drop a comment below or send us a DM🌱
