Look at the trunk section suspended off the hook: it is hanging plumb, straight up and down, which tells you the sling was set above its center of balance before the cut was made.

Look at where the climber has set himself: on the solid trunk, below the dead wood, tied in above his waist so his hands are free and his weight is already caught if a spike slips.
