A pier deck should be ready for water, sun, bare feet, and plenty of activity.

When Camp Civitan on Alabama’s Lake Martin needed a new pier deck, officials selected Strongwell’s ® plank system. The interlocking panels provided a durable, water-resistant, low-maintenance surface with minimal heat retention and a non-skid finish.

The 24-inch-wide panels also simplified installation: the camp director installed the deck himself in less than two hours.

How can a walking surface help improve accessibility?

For a New York subway platform, Strongwell fiberglass panels provided a durable, lightweight, and slip-resistant surface designed for high pedestrian traffic. A 10-inch-wide orange strip featuring a coarser grit helps alert visually impaired passengers through a noticeable change in texture as they approach the platform edge.

The result is a practical example of supporting durability, low maintenance, and safer public infrastructure.

This week's sector focus article examines how turning plastic waste into stronger . Researchers have developed a one-pot process that transforms discarded PET into a high-performance epoxy toughener. At just 0.3% loading, the recycled additive increased epoxy impact strength by nearly 99% while maintaining key mechanical, optical and thermal properties—a promising step toward more durable and sustainable composite materials.

Researchers convert waste PET into hyperbranched oligomers that boost epoxy impact strength by 98.9% at just 0.3 wt.%, offering a high-value plastic recycling pathway.
