Transforming this 7,000 sq. ft. driveway took pure precision, artful craftsmanship, and serious hustle. From building a rock-solid compacted base to hand-laying every single piece, here’s how we brought this custom hardscape to life:

Materials: 6 1/2 x 13" pavers in a classic herringbone layout.

Border: A 6-foot perimeter band using Shale Grey Westmount pavers following the radius of the concrete wall.

Drainage: Built with two slopes bisecting in the center to feed a hidden drain system.

Finish: Locked in tight with activated polymeric sand for decades of stability.

Ever wonder why some paver patios last forever while others sink and shift after just one season?

It all comes down to what you can’t see. The secret to a flawless hardscape isn’t the pavers themselves—it’s the foundation underneath them.

1️⃣ Native Soil: The absolute foundation. We dig deep and compact the raw earth to eliminate any future settling.
2️⃣ Road Mix: Added in multiple inches and packed tight. This provides the heavy-duty strength and crucial drainage.
3️⃣ Base Layer (Bedding and Sand): A perfectly smooth, leveled layer that cradles the pavers.
4️⃣ The Pavers: The star of the show is precision laid, and locked into place.
5️⃣ Polymeric Sand: Swept into the joints and activated with water to lock out weeds, pests, and washout.

Would you let us build this for you? One of our recent proposals is shoring up to be our best residential project yet!

17,254 square feet of hardscape. Nine installations. Seven spaces. One estate.

Warm tan concrete pavers in herringbone bond sweep from the gates through a 36-foot-radius circular drive and into a motor court enclosed on three sides — 5,355 sq ft, the largest single installation on the project, centered on a banded inlay with soldier courses following every wall line.

Then the material changes. Premium 2'×2' Italian porcelain in warm cream travertine runs across 5,486 sq ft of pool deck and back patio, finished with matching bullnose coping at the water's edge. It carries onto a 480 sq ft upper terrace floating on adjustable pedestal supports — each head tuned independently so the structural slope below disappears and the floor reads as one perfectly flat plane. It carries to the guest house. It carries to the front door.

And 260 linear feet of custom porcelain step caps tie it together — mitered and cut on site, with low-voltage LED recessed beneath every tread overhang. Fixture invisible. Only the glow on the riser face. Transformer and photocell handle the rest: on at dusk, off at dawn.

Idaho Botanical Project Update:
The front entry has been completed with bike stalls, steel awning for covered parking, and dual-purpose planter-bed benches. We've built several large planter beds to feature native plant species, and completed 90% of the hard-scape work on the first educational amphitheater. The main event lawn is coming together really well with break-in-place paver entry steps into sandstone slab stairs and tiered seating areas. We're currently laying pathways and bridges above drainage to unify all the separate spaces into one cohesive vision. Still to come are the boardwalk, main lawn finishing touches, and an additional amphitheater.

This isn't just a courtyard--it's the main entrance to this home 🤯 As such, we had to create a space that truly pops!

The center circle is designed to anchor a fire feature that will welcome guests in an unforgettable way . . . literally fire 🔥

Every piece had to be dialed in.

The entrance starts as a three-size paver field and merges into three radial circles.

The outer ring? Techo-Bloc soldier course — every paver stood up vertically and hand-cut to hold that curve 💪

Inside it, herringbone that flows straight through a color change without ever breaking pattern. No transition. No reset. The weave just keeps going while the color shifts underneath it 👀

And a planter bed tucks in behind the walkway against the house, so this paver work had to pull double duty — anchor everything sitting on it AND frame everything going in around it.

Here's the thing about a build like this . . . there's nowhere to hide 😅

A soldier course that drifts a quarter inch? You see it from the front door. Herringbone that breaks at the color change? Whole illusion is dead. Radial circles either land true or they don't.

So we got it right. Every cut, every joint, every circle 🎯

This is what happens when the entrance IS the experience.

Ever heard of a drain field? How about static pressure? 🤔
Both of those concepts are imperative for proper construction of any outdoor wall, planter bed, or even pathway pavers. If you've ever seen a retaining wall that failed, it's because the person/crew installing it didn't take into account how heavy fill material can be.
