It may be difficult to see here but this grass is really soft and boyant. It will feel like you can grab a handful and pull it up. Aeration does help. Using a wire rake is back breaking. We use a power rake/dethatcher. That soft ground will turn into heavy thatch that you will not be able to see and potentially cause many issues such as water, bugs and fungus. Don’t be intimidated by what you’ve heard about the power rake because there is different setting and we use two different machines.

We have been coming across a major amount of heavy thatch in yards this year across the valley because we believe much of the snow rot wasn’t raked out over the last 2 to 4 years. We’ve had some strange winters these last few years in the Treasure Valley. We are doing a lot of dethatching with power raking and Aerations. Aerations are almost always a good idea. 208-703-7217

Call John @ 208-703-7217 for Lawn Aeration or Lawn Aeration Extreme. Lawn Aeration Extreme is core plug aeration, removal of a portion of the plugs, compost and top soil spread throughout and then fertilizer and seed (optional). Some people prefer a thatching before seeding.
