4 Hour Minimum Explained.. Why a dirt guy will not come out for one hour?

4-hour minimum at $125 an hour. $500 covers the trailer, the truck and the machine for half a day.

Here is the one-hour job, priced breakdown .

The customer is 20 miles away. 40 miles round trip on the truck and trailer costs $3.09 a mile once you count the truck, the trailer, insurance, plates, fuel, tires and the man driving it. $123.70 before the ramps come down. Loading, tying down and unloading is an hour of the man, $38.61. The machine hour itself, with every line on it, is $94.59.

$256.90 for one billed hour.

Bill it at $125 and you paid the customer $131.90 to come see him. Bill 4 hours at $125 and run all four, and you are still $40.67 under. Bill 4 hours at $150 and you finally clear $59.

The minimum is not a fee. It is the haul, and the haul is $162 before the bucket touches dirt. Either the minimum covers it or the mobilization goes on the invoice as its own line, where the customer can see what he is
