🛁✨ A customer came to us with an original vintage drain fl**ge still installed in his vintage tub.
When he tried replacing it with a modern Kohler push-push drain fl**ge, the diameter was almost identical — but the threads didn’t match 🔩❌

Instead of tossing the original piece, Ragnar had an idea 💡
We carefully transplanted the modern internal components into the original vintage fl**ge, then refinished it to match the look of the new drain.

The result? 🙌
✔️ Original vintage appearance
✔️ Modern push-push functionality
✔️ Clean, timeless aesthetic

All while preserving the integrity of the original fixture 🕰️✨
This is what thoughtful preservation looks like.

🛠 How a 100-Year-Old Standing Waste Works

In this short clip, we break down how a classic standing waste operates and show the condition this 100-year-old unit was in when it arrived at The Sink Factory.

💧 How it works:

Plunger down → blocks the water outlet

Rotate the plunger → lifts and allows water to drain

This standing waste came to us in very rough shape and required a custom restoration approach.

🎥 How to Change an OLD Sunrise Specialty Faucet Cartridge (Pre-1997)

Sunrise Specialty faucets manufactured up to about 1997 use an older internal design. This video walks through the correct process to safely remove and replace the cartridge.

🔧 Step 1: Remove the handle screw

Old-style versions use a 10-32 handle screw, available on our website.

🔧 Step 2: Remove the bonnet nut

The bonnet nut holds the stem and cartridge in place and is also available on our website.

💡 Pro Tip:

After removing the bonnet nut, reattach the handle and screw, then pull the entire cartridge and housing out together. This method makes removal easier and helps prevent damage.

⚠️ Important:

There are no direct replacement cartridges for these old Sunrise Specialty faucets on the open market.

✔️ The Sink Factory has developed a modern washerless cartridge engineered to fit and function correctly in these older fixtures — available on our website.

🚫 We strongly recommend not attempting to rebuild the original cartridge. Installing a new cartridge is the safest and most reliable solution.

🔩 Reassembly Tip:

Tighten the bonnet nut until the cartridge and handle cannot rotate past the closed position. Proper tension is critical for correct operation.

🔧 Sunrise Specialty Old Style vs. New Style Faucets

They may look the same on the outside, but internally they are very different.

✔️ Old Style = traditional compression valve

✔️ New Style = modern washerless valve

Key differences include:

• Bonnet / beauty nut size

• Cartridge & stem tip design

• Handle screw type

🛠 Pro tip: When replacing cartridges, always replace the washers too (SKU: BF-005 / 03-3) for smooth, long-lasting performance.

💧 With proper maintenance, these faucets can last for decades.

A customer brought in this beautiful vintage sink measuring approximately 40″ wide by 21″ front to back to have the original faucets repurposed and reworked for continued use. As part of the project, the customer also requested custom legs to be attached, a common customization we perform here at The Sink Factory.

This type of modification allows original fixtures to remain functional while adapting the sink to new spaces and modern installations. Another custom transformation from The Sink Factory ✨

This video showcases how we reworked a customer’s 6” spread kitchen faucet by Central Brass into a piece built to age beautifully.

We refinished the faucet in natural brass, allowing it to develop character over time, while keeping the original base intact. To elevate both form and function, we installed a Chicago Faucets baby gooseneck—available through The Sink Factory—and upgraded the standard handles to ceramic hot and cold indexing for smooth, reliable operation.

This one was a real joy to make. Customizations like this are what we do every day.

If you—or someone you know—are interested in similar modifications, visit our contact form or submit a request-a-quote for services on our website and we’ll be more than happy to assist you.

Straight from the late 1800s ⏳

This separate hot and cold vintage faucet set is an authentic example of late-1800s plumbing, reflecting the craftsmanship and materials used during the earliest era of indoor water systems.

These faucets are offered for sale as-is, making them ideal for period restorations, collectors, or historical projects. Original fixtures from the late 1800s carry a level of character that modern reproductions simply can’t match.

If desired, they can be professionally brought back to working condition here at The Sink Factory for an additional cost, while preserving their original look and integrity.

📩 Message us if you’re interested in purchasing these late-1800s faucets or would like to discuss restoration options.
