Before you pick a gate, measure the biggest thing that has to fit through it.

Mower, wheelbarrow, trash cans, maybe the trailer you're planning to buy. A walk gate is plenty for a lot of side yards, but if equipment has to get through, plan for it now. Widening a gate after the fence is up costs more than building it right the first time.

Most of the space under a deck ends up as bare dirt. This one got put to work.

Irregular flagstone underfoot, boulders lining the edge, and big stone slab steps coming up from the yard. Now there's a level spot under the deck and a solid way up from the yard.
