One of the most common things we hear from homeowners is that they are worried soft water will ruin their low-sodium lifestyle.

Why a Softener is NOT an Iron Filter! 🔍
We see a lot of homeowners who think a standard water softener is all they need to handle heavy well water. But these two pictures tell a completely different story about how different systems handle local iron.

1. The Success Story (The Iron Filter)
Look at that stainless steel bypass. The right side (the IN port) is completely caked in thick, orange iron. But look at the left side (the OUT port)—it is remarkably clean!
This bypass belonged to a dedicated Iron Filter. Even though the raw well water coming into the house was loaded with heavy iron, the system was doing exactly what it was engineered to do. Trapping the iron inside the tank and sending clean, clear water out to the home.
2. The Failing Strategy (The Water Softener Only)
This plastic bypass belonged to a standard Water Softener trying to do an iron filter's job. Notice how both sides are completely choked out with dark sludge?
Standard water softeners are designed to remove hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium). While they can catch a tiny bit of clear-water iron, heavy iron quickly overloads the resin bed, fouls the system, and bleeds right through into the house lines. It ruins the softener and leaves your plumbing unprotected.
The Moral of the Story, if you have orange stains in your sinks or tubs, just throwing a water softener at the problem isn't going to cut it. You need the right tool for the job. Pair a dedicated iron filter with your softener to protect your appliances, keep your water pressure strong, and save your plumbing from looking like that second picture.

We often get customers who want to support us but aren't quite sure how to leave a standard online review. Sharon didn't let that stop her, she sent this incredible email instead.

This popped up right as I was trying to film my install. My phone has officially reached its limit with softener content.
So what's the move here? Delete the baby pictures of the kids, or delete the random snapshots of water softeners from the last 7 years ?
(Don't tell my wife, but I had to think about it for a second).
Time to clean out the camera roll so I can keep bringing you guys the clean water content.
