Dreaming of a more private retreat in your own backyard? Here at Stone Blossom, we love creating destination outdoor spaces. When designing a project, we can use thoughtful landscape design and carefully selected plantings to create inviting spaces that feel like a true escape just steps from your door.

For this client, the goal was a secluded destination patio centered around a fire pit. The space features a circular pea stone patio bordered with granite cobblestones, accessed by granite steps and bluestone steppers. Framing the entrance, two large boulders create a sense of arrival while adding both privacy and a grand, welcoming feel.

Did you know that New Hampshire has a native cactus?
The eastern prickly pear is the only cactus species native to our area. When it comes to our harsh New England winters, this native cactus has learned to adapt and survive by draining the water from its pads and concentrating glucose in its cells, creating its own form of antifreeze to help protect it. During the warmer months, the eastern prickly pear typically clings to dry, sunny, and heavily drained sandy soils. This cactus will flop over and shrivel up during the cold winter months, but don’t worry, come spring it will plump right back up and produce yellow flowers as shown above. While the eastern prickly pear is native to New Hampshire, it is considered to be exceedingly rare and even endangered or vulnerable in several nearby states due to coastal development and habitat erosion.

One of the goals we have here at Stone Blossom is keeping your garden as low maintenance as possible. We can reduce the hands on care needed with just a few choices during your garden installation.
To start, a drip irrigation system can be installed to help you spend less time watering your plants. But if irrigation isn’t the route for you, a great alternative is to focus on planting more drought tolerant plants that require less water.
Another way to reduce maintenance is to strategically space plants in order to limit the amount of pruning needed.
Lastly, we can utilize groundcover plants (plants that grow to be less than a foot tall, but can spread several feet wide) to minimize mulching and weeding over time.

This property already had a beautiful view. We brought our comprehensive landscape services to the table to help the homeowners enjoy it even more.
First, our Construction crew installed granite steppers leading to a granite patio that overlooks the distant hills. Next, the Planting crew added evergreens, shrubs, and perennials to bring vibrant color and texture to the space. Years after the initial build, our Fine Gardening crew continues to maintain the property, ensuring everything looks just as beautiful as the day it was installed.

Here’s a peek behind the curtain of a project that we are currently working on! This client had a new garage built, and some much needed landscaping was desired to blend it into the property. The first picture shows a design that was made for the project. A refined woodland theme meshed with the client’s preferences. The following pictures show the progress of this property as we work through each step. We still have the remainder of the granite steps, planting, and landscape lighting left to install. Keep an eye out for the post of the complete project in the future!
