The story of Alvin Lin, our 2026 Hoosier Hero
Alvin Lin has served our country through five combat deployments across Iraq and Afghanistan, including Baghdad, Mosul, Tal Afar, and the Korengal Valley in Afghanistan.
Those places represent more than names on a map. They represent time away from home, sacrifice, danger, and the kind of service most of us will never fully understand.
But Alvin’s story is not only about where he served. It is also about what he came home to.
After one of his tours, Alvin came home to Jessica holding their small infant son. In that moment, he knew he wanted a different life — one where he could be home more, be present with his family, and build a life rooted in a place they loved.
That place became the home they are in today.
This home carries a story that goes deeper than one family. Jessica’s dad purchased the home years ago because he loved the community and believed it was a wonderful place to call home. Later, Alvin and Jessica’s family had the opportunity to buy the home from him and continue building their life there.
That is what makes this year’s Hoosier Heroes giveaway so meaningful. This roof is not just helping protect one military family — it is helping protect a home connected to two families, service, sacrifice, and love.
For us, Hoosier Heroes has always been about more than shingles and nails. It is about honoring veterans, recognizing the families who stand beside them, and giving back in a way that truly matters.
Alvin, thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and the life you continue to build here at home. We are honored to recognize you as our 2026 local Hoosier Hero.
