Gulf Storm Pool Recovery: What to Do After the Storm
🌧️ A storm is in the Gulf. Now what?
For Southeast Texas pool owners, storm preparation doesn’t stop when the rain starts. Knowing what to do during and after a storm can make the difference between a pool that recovers quickly and one that needs days of extra cleanup.
Here’s the quick recovery playbook:
During the storm
• Don’t drain your pool. Heavy rain and saturated ground can create hydrostatic pressure that may damage an empty pool.
• Turn off pool equipment during sustained high winds or unstable power.
• Don’t attempt cleanup while dangerous winds or flooding are present.
Day 1- Safety first
• Inspect the pool area for downed limbs, power lines, damaged equipment, cracked tile, and standing water.
• Keep away from electrical equipment exposed to water and have it professionally inspected.
• Remove leaves and floating debris before restarting the system.
• Check the water level and adjust as needed.
• Restart the pump only if the equipment pad and equipment remained dry and undamaged.
Days 2–3- Restore the water
• Test and rebalance your chemistry, starting with alkalinity and then pH.
• Shock the pool according to the product label.
• Run the filtration system continuously as appropriate for your pool and equipment.
• Clean or backwash the filter as needed.
• Retest your water daily and monitor clarity.
