The Sabal palmetto, also known as the cabbage palmetto, is South Carolina’s official state tree. Native to the Southeast, it thrives along the coast and can grow up to 65 feet tall.

During the American Revolution, palmetto logs were used to build a fort on Sullivan’s Island in 1776. The tree absorbed British cannon fire, helping defend Charleston and leading to a Patriot victory—earning it a reputation as a symbol of strength and resilience.

Palmettos also benefit from occasional pruning to keep them looking their best. Call us if you would like to have yours cleaned up!

When a tree gets struck by lightning, the damage can be intense. Temperatures can reach up to 50,000°F, instantly turning moisture inside the tree into steam. That rapid pressure can cause bark to split, peel, or even explode off—leaving cracks, scars, and charred wood behind.

It’s always best to have a certified arborist inspect the tree to determine if it’s still safe (I’m not one). If it turns out to be a hazard, give me a call—I’ve got you covered.

Most trees release more sap during spring and early summer? This is excessively true with Loblolly pines. That amount of sap is not conducive to keeping gear clean while pruning or removal 🤦🏻‍♂️ But the job must go on!
