A friend told me she didn't know chickens would come when you call them or that they put themselves to bed after wandering. They definitely come running when they know the treat lady is calling.

I'm trying something new with my vegetable beds. I usually put cardboard down after I plant in my perennials beds but this time I put cardboard and plastic down for months to kill the weeds, then fresh cardboard and drilled holes in the cardboard for the seeds. We'll see how it works, I'm tired of fighting the weeds and trying to keep cats from using my garden as a litter box. By the way now is the perfect time to plant zucchini because the first wave of the vine borer is finishing. My dad taught me to always plant zucchini a little later to avoid them. Chickens put them selves to bed by the time I was done. Wild turkeys supervising in the back fields.
