Failed Pond, Reimagined:
The first pond on this property was built by a general excavator on rocky, unsuitable soil, and it never held water. The landowners were told to wait and let it seal itself. It never did. So they called us.
What we built:
→ Civil 3D CAD design and mass earthmoving. We replaced the basic basin with a pond bottom that had deeper depths, ridges, valleys, pools, and drop-offs. Deeper water throughout to give the fish refuge from summer heat and winter cold, and ridges and drop-offs create edges where fish hold and feed.
→ Heavy-duty LLDPE liner. It uses material engineered to be waterproof, with professional installation by our in-house team.
→ A hidden liner edge. 🌟 This is one of our favorite details. The liner transitions well below grade at the shoreline, so it disappears completely once the pond fills.
→ Rebuilt retaining wall. We rebuilt the retaining wall with the new liner hidden behind the wall instead of fastened to the face.
→ Strategic fish structure. Hundreds of tons of rock, soil, and habitat pieces were installed, the majority of which the family creatively designed and built themselves.
→ Fine finish grade. The landowners are handling seeding and erosion control.
💧 Well water:
This pond will fill not only from runoff, but also from a well. Perfect for those hot summer months to keep the pond topped off. The landowners are also installing their own aeration system.
‼️ If you're planning a pond or lake fed by a well, it's worth taking note: well water comes out of the ground very low in oxygen. On a fishing pond especially, aeration is something we highly recommend.
The vision, made real:
🔎 The rock was obvious at our first look; a natural clay rebuild would have meant hauling in suitable material from elsewhere or sifting through the entire property to find pockets of clean material. We weighed that against how the family planned to use the pond, the site conditions, and sourcing options. The landowners chose a full makeover with a heavy-duty liner.
These landowners wanted a private fishery and recreation pond their family could enjoy for generations. It would be theirs alone, not a public fishing hole: a place to fish in peace, entertain around and on the water, show off to guests, and escape to whenever complete solitude is all you need.
By pairing the right design with the right materials and the family's own hands-on involvement, we turned a failed pond into exactly that.

There's an eagle's landing and an entertaining space built from a repurposed grain bin, turned into a gazebo. How cool!
